I meant, in an area that's already got supports, is it possible to display what's protected by them and what isn't?

yea, click button the make another support and move it around so it shows you the radius

there might also be a custom client feature that shows it to you, i dunno

The Ender client shows you the range of all mine supports by just clicking to build one.
