I don't think it's unreasonable to expect people that work in the tourism industry to speak English.

I think Americans should atleast give respect to France, like a life debt, they helped us become a country, sold us a ton of land, and gave us a statue. i'd be someone's friend for a statue

Nah no reason to, French tourism is mostly based upon other French speaking people visiting it. Also for a Frenchmen the world ends at the border (just like Americans actually!) so he'll hardly ever need a second language.
