Tough luck, but yeah it really taught you on your first day how this game works so consider it a valuable experience. Since you were only a day old not much of value was lost either.

in w3, BN had done a great job of punishing almost all crimes committed within their controlled area, dead claim or not.
i believe it was not out of boredom, but it was to keep up with their goal of "no crimes forgiven in the region", and i am very thankful to them for that i barely had an encounter with a hostle player during w3.

as for myself, apart from when visiting other spots as a translator, my only encounter with hostile players only happened when i couldnt see them at all and got killed all of a sudden without any words (once by Odditown, once by MS13, both in w5), so, no stories to tell here unfortunately (or fortunately).

My first encounter was 2 guys prob from the village named Shogunate..I was exploring the world in hunt for some Wild Windsown Weeds when 2 guys came up around me in boats.
One of the guy was holding a boat(intended to block my path) and they started to hunt me down by the river.
After a while and failure of breaking my boat, one of them got DC and the other one gave up and left.

I started to play H&H in W3 and this happend in W5 so i guess i have a bit of luck, but maybe its cos i play "hermit" and avoid villages and crowds :D

My first REAL encounter came in world 2.

I joined a village that was at war with Wayneville, I had around 360 melee so I thought even if attacked i could handle myself, even though i had never PVPed in this game at that point (this was the old combat system, no moves, just auto attacks). But, just to be extra safe I lived in my personal village owned by my alt.

One day I went to drop off a load of HQ bronze, warp in, all seemed safe. I then use a CR and warp to a mine to stash the bronze. Just as i start to put the bronze away 2 guys appear and attack! Its was Gato and (i think) Warri. Gato swings and hits me with his sword, Warri had a sling and hits me with a stone, both hits happen in around 2-3 secs or so. I thought to myself "shit, I'm about to die, RUN", shortly after thinking "Hell no I'm not running, MAN UP, you have 360 melee!". So i swing back, Miss, then I'm hit by a sword, then a stone. I swing and miss again followed by them both hitting me and I'm dropped and murdered. Gato contacted me a day or 2 later and said how sorry he was, He also returned all of my items.

I then made it my mission to destroy Wayneville and all who lived there, I joined a group of people who were going to attack Wayneville, led by Avu. For 2-3 weeks (i forget) i trained my char back up, I spent long hours hunting (damn i miss those 12k LP bears, I think I was making around 500k LP per day or more). I talked a member of Wayneville to give me access to his account and betraying them, late at night i would log in and steal/destroy whatever i could get my hands on. A week or so before the attack, the worlds end was announced, it took some of our fire but "a mans gotta do, what a mans gotta do". Wayneville was destroyed the night of our attack, The most powerful village in world 2, destroyed! Revenge was mine!

http://www.havenandhearth.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=5129 <---- an old thread about our attack

I was then tracked and summoned/murdered after they smashed there way through the Hearth Vault I was in. I also contacted Burg and informed him about the traitor whom let me steal and destroy whatever i wanted in Wayneville.

Those were fun times, And its funny to think about how many friends i made in Wayneville despite me attacking them.

Note: Sorry for my grammar, spelling and for writing such a long post, I hope this was worth the read.

In W3 I never saw another soul. My first encounter with a hostile player was in W4: a hearthling in a boat with a boar helmet and a hird cape jumped off his boat and gave me a crate of WWW. I said thanks. He shot me with his bow. I stood up. He kinned me. He later returned to gift me with other wondrous items. This was when Dolgapol was around, for those who remember.
W5: Sevenson
W4: Kail the Chieftain of Providence
W3: Crofton the Hermit

There was once a bear with crimson hair
He moved faster than Kail could see:
And took his fingers three.

Nice story indeed and for all those who think we are such an elitist little clique, read the link global posted. You can see how Avu and I were at eachothers throats back then. Nontheless we both realized the other player had potential and put our differences aside after w2 to form the awesome city of Sodom together, something that had never been there in the HnH history up to that point. This is how you form something great in the game and not by whining about those elitist players at the top that nobody can ever reach. Guess what, opposed to rl we all have the same base in this game and thus equal chances of making it to the top.

My first hostile encounter was this dude named something like "warrior monk" (JTG) running around my village late at night, dumping everything he could find onto the ground. He claimed he was relieving us of our material burdens. When I finally decided to attack him (having little combat experience) he hid behind a kiln before I could aggro him.

Yeah, we didn't think much of it really since we are all mature. It was a great experience, to be able to feel this paranoid about a game. I mean we can't continue on the settlement, he knows where we are and he's clearly an idiot. I mean, does he even get LP for killing us? Why would you kill noobs like us anyway? Well, when we find out where on the map we are, we'll go back and reclaim our old village, somehow. It's a part of the game, and if stuff like this couldn't happen then it wouldn't be any fun.

Some dude (I think canadian) in W2 got into our village and proceeded to steal our precious crops because he was 'starving'. (We didn't have claims yet)
Couldn't do anything except watch, this was shortly after I started playing H&H.

A screenie (as usual) :)
This guy looked formidable in his bear cape. I wonder if the person who did this will see this on the forums and recognise himself. That'd be interesting :)

AFAI remember W2 was filled with a very large number more of mentally unstable people than W3. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm not certain how 'hostile' the guy was, but my companions and I got scared away from our originally settlement a bit by this guy and his friend. We still operate out of the same settlement, but have joined a village. Which, funnily enough, got raided a few days ago by cowards and our little claim has yet to be touched.

The guy whoever, yes. He initially came up to our palisade while one of my friends was there alone, and began asking that he be allowed to join our group. My friend repeatedly told him no as, one, he was freaking him out, and two, the settlement consisted of three personal friends and I, we had all joined the game together. I warped in from my scavanging and joined in on telling him no. The guy proceeded to declare 'but I can bring you this all the time!' and retrieved from his boat a dead fox and a dead boar. We, being particularly noobish at the time, were by now freaked. He kept acting like he was about to walk away, picking up his boat and starting to leave, then finding some reason to come back to the gate and continue asking to join. We were telling him that the 'leader' of our settlement (the owner of the claim) wasn't there at the time, because my friend and I were faaaar too nice to tell him to fuck off. I informed one of the other people in my settlement and he logged on. The guy did his fake walkaway again then zoomed back when he saw my companion, asking if he was the leader.

Turns out they had already met. The guy had been in a bear cloak the day before chasing my companion down the river north of us begging my companion to join his village and promising him a bear cloak if he did. The guy was now in noobie clothing. Without backing down my companion told him to leave. This actually worked, but the guy left the carcasses on our doorsteps as 'gifts'. We broke them down and put the pieces in the freebie bins outside our palisade.

We already had contact with the village north of us that was a trading post for another village. We told the leader, by then our friend, about it and he assured us if we needed to we could move into his village. The guy returned the next day with a friend. Both were wearing bear cloaks. The guy walked up to our palisade and called out to me, demanding I come out and hunt with them. I said no. It was at this unfortunate time that my companion, the one he had already met, returned carrying a boat. We very carefully had him run into the palisade when the guy was an okay distance away and slammed the gate shut behind him. This prompted him to run up to the palisade gate after it had closed and ask if he could come in. We flatout said no and he said 'aw, you stink' and left. We packed up our noobie valuables and 'moved out'. I last saw him days later when I stepped out of the palisade briefly to grab something. When I walked back, he was standing near the gate, between me and it, and I wasn't about to try and open it with him nearby. I had my finger on the key to teleport to our village, watching him. He said nothing but 'hi', then silence. Someone came from the northern edge of my screen at a run, zeroing in on where I stood in time with me turning to walk away. He and the stranger began to follow me at a run and I hit the teleport key without hestiating. I don't know if they were actually hostile, but jesus christ.
