As Burg pointed out though, if you're just standing there exchanging blows, UA is almost always going to win.

Movement combat ;)
aww yeah!

though.. with the other thing you said, i ran
into someone the other day, they bumped into
my shield then tried stacking 6 but i let a small
stream of blood flow from me and then added
theirs to the growing pool at our feet. Soon
a torn body was dropped into the red puddle,
and i drifted back into the shadows.

Melee is the gladiator, Unarmed is the berserk
Marksmanship is the sniper.

I personally enjoy Melee combat sheerly because
it requires less numbers, but a bit more skill to
succeed at xD

MC has the advantage of dealing at least double the damage, and more if the opponent is armoured. UA is useful because it has more maneuvers that use it to weight the DEF bar. IP is paid for the extra damage done. The issue is the lack of maneuvers for MC and the lack of variety for certain weapon uses (the B12) that demand a high UA because you cannot carry a shield.
Since the DEF bar is based on the weight of your skills, UA has a bit of an advantage with choice.

I am an axe man, so I have to have both, but I would like to go sole melee.

what do you guys mean when you say "mobile combat"?

is there some way to reset the cooldown or something, by moving a little away from your opponent?

my combat experience is (almost) completely limited to animals, so... I don't have much to add to this thread, other than that i like to use a mixture with melee as a finisher, since it means that once i have the animals defense down, i can pretty much kill it instantly. I guess this would work the same in PvP..(?)

I'm a bit confused by all the people who say "if you're just standing there exchanging blows, UA is almost always going to win."

does this mean if you're melee, to have any chance in a fight you need to constantly move around? o.0

why

Well I think perhaps part of what they mean is that, if you just fight by getting the reqs for your attack + full attack bar, then executing attack and repeating, UA will be faster.
Melee you need to use more different moves so that you gain IP faster & can keep up with the UA fighter?

Maneuvers. That's really all there is to it. Maneuvers allow a standing unarmed fighter to gain IP faster, attack faster, defense faster, and use moves/specials/attacks faster. The melee combatant has to be clever and quick witted to overcome a UA fighter standing next to eachother. When moving, the MC fighter gains advantages that I'd rather not mention out of sheer respect that they were only recently shared with me as well.
