your counter arguments have also revealed severe mental retardation all around. you like having to click a path around a tree yourself instead of just clicking where you want to go? (which is normal in every mouse operated game since the DOS era). yeah, have fun with that. this game isn't terraria? you claim it's actually quite different? wow! how many braincells did ya have to rub together to think pointing that out was relevant? I shouldn't complain about an alpha game? it's just as terrible as a year ago! all these points (and more) were a problem then as they are now, and an "alpha" doesn't last longer than a few months
This game is not Starcraft or Age of Empires. You do not need to control an army, only one character. This one character should be your only focus, and if you do not pay attention it will be eaten by a bear or another character. The derogation of the argument from game-play and functionality to mocking the player-base for enjoying a game is quiet childish and falls within the domain of the rhetorical fallacies of ad hominem and ignoratio elenchi.
shishikyuu wrote:the point however is this. regardless of how much you like this game yourself, why do most gamers just sneer at it in disgust? why hasn't it picked up a decent following since it was first publicly available (which has been for quite a while now)? dwarf fortress was mentioned before, which obviously has a much steeper learning curve. yet still that game is far far more popular than this game ever will. you should ask yourselves why that would be, even with the learning curve and terrible graphics.
Most gamers are not aware of Haven and Hearth because it is not overly advertised aside from word of mouth. The graphics have little to do with the learning curve, yet I agree the learning curve is steep for new players and requires time to learn. This is not a bad thing. The players who stick with it are not newbs and know what they are doing. Perfect.
shishikyuu wrote:what really is happening here is a cult like circle-jerk of a tiny club of people where everyone tells each other the game actually is much better than it seems, and will get even better eventually (which, surprise surprise, it won't). this goes on till you all agree with each other and feel superior to anyone who just doesn't "get it". you all see what you want to see instead of the blubber in front of you, thanks to constant positive reinforcement from your peers. hows that religion working out for you?
Your lack of support for your points is reduced to insults. All indie games will have a cult following, but this is not much different than players who shell out fifty dollars every year for the next Call of Duty. CoD is not ground breaking and does what other shooters are currently doing or have done before it in a setting and genre that is already fully saturated and over done. This is not a symptom of CoD alone, but many popular franchises. As I mentioned before, insulting the player is the last line of defence that makes you look pitiful.

This game has been active for two years, and many of the players are prosperous intelligent people. Some of the mods are dickish, but it adds to the brand.
