It's politics. Change is never a smooth, pretty transition. While it is horrifying, this sort of end shouldn't come as a shock to anyone.

I won't dispute that in the slightest. Gaddafi's end would always be like this, but I'd hoped that people had grown out of this habit of back-slapping each other on a job well done taking joy in a man's death. Maybe "disturbing" wasn't the best word, more like "disappointingly predictable".

Biased, yes, but you can't say it isn't true; you are being just as one sided in your own way. Him being a murderer doesn't cancel the positive changes he brought to Libya, "good" and "bad" things are not mutually exclusive.

Also, for those enjoying the blood orgy that world leaders have given everyone permission to have, maybe you should look at the footage of him being dragged off to his execution while begging for his life and remind yourself that this is a human being. The hypocrisy flying around is disturbing.

Thankyou for being rational. Were acting like this man is the devil. Honestly i can think of A LOT worse people who run country's then him. I never absolved him of his crimes. However I judge people fairly based on the good and the bad. The reason I posted a biased video like that was because everyone was calling out for his damn head on a silver platter.

Burg, your bleeding heart is all fine and dandy in a hypothetical, hippy love-fest sense but the reality is that creatures like Hitler, Gaddafi, Jong-Il, Ahmadinejad and so on play by a certain set of rules that completely steps outside the bounds of decent men. I'm fine with treating people fairly when everybody plays by the same rules but they use our decency as a weapon against us in the hope that we won't turn the evil they regularly use back on them. Fuck that. These kinds of human pollution need to leave this world as fast as possible, be it noose, bullet or missile.

Wake up, people. The Earth has turned into the fucking Serengeti Plain and it is time to thin the herd.

So what you are telling me is that these people still are a threat to others when they are locked up tightly in a prison cell for the rest of their lives? You have to chop their heads off to be safe?

Also I am not talking some hippy shit here. I am talking in the sense of the philosophy of enlightenment which brought you such comfortable features as democracy, freedom of speech, equal rights and all that nonsense. You are kicking that very philosophy with your feet when you deny human beings their right to use the very same laws we all live by.

I am arguing that exactly because those guys didn't play by the rules we have to play even more by the very same. Otherwise you are not worht a cent more than them.

Question is they'd rather live for the rest of their lives in a prison, or they wanna get killed.

Of course you're right, burgingham, but try to look at this in the context.
It was a dicature, every juge, state employees, prison keepers in this country are here because they could prove there faithfulness to this regime.
And this country is rich, lots of oil, and all this belong to him, he could corrupt virtually anybody.
There is a lot of chance a equitable proces would condamne Gaddafy, but the new "regime" is weak, its just a popular riot, can you blame his murderer if he dont want to give him to the "jusitce" of his country, that justice who hanged so many innocents peoples ?
Yes its bad, but the partisants had to kill many peoples and soldiers to free there country, Gaddafy was one of them.

I wonder if you could keep yourself from killing someone who has hurt your family, your friends and your country severly, if you had the chance. If it was me in that place, I'd chop his head off too.

Gaddafi obviously should have been judged by the International Court of Justice in Den Haag.

@Grable: I am pretty sure I couldn't even kill someone to save my own life. That is not what is up for debate here though. This is a debate about norms and ethically justified behaviour.

Foreign nations have no business getting involved in a civil war such as with Lybia...NATO should never have been there in the first place... And to celebrate the death of this guy is purely childish and naive . The next leaders that could be taken out may as well be British, American, or any other nation with valuable resources. Most governments are guilty of the same things...IMHO

Oh but there were kidnappings and torture in Lybia? Look at guantamo bay...the US does the same thing....one mans terrorist is another's freedom fighter...look at Che Guevara ... And of course history is written by the victor....

ok I'll get off my soapbox now...lol
