Played it sooner... was such a lagfest it was completely unplayable in some parts of the game. I've been debating on trying it again, but the whole expansion thing kind of puts me off.

What is it it with Funcom? They have such great game concepts and then fail to launch anything playable? I'm not saying they don't get things fixed, just seem to have launch problems. Maybe they'll have that fixed when The Secret World launches. (Kinda looking forward to that one... love conspiracy theory stuff)

They were preparing a new engine to improve the graphics (and lag when entering major cities such as Borealis) about the time I quit.
As for the expansion part, I've played as a froob for 4 years, it's a bit tougher to level up after you hit lvl 140 but you can still kick ass in PVP if you know what you're doing.

League of Legends is a great way to get the PvP crave out of you.

I've seen youtube videos of LoL, it looks like it'd be decent
Is it like a halo type game where you go in to matchmaking and kill everyone/everything as many times as you can?
Or do you level up/upgrade ?

Defense of the Ancients, it's an old custom map from Starcraft 1. It was highly popular and ported to Warcraft 3 where its fanbase grew large enough to support multiple versions of the same game: Heroes of Newerth, League of Legends, and Defense of the Ancients (1 and 2.)

The game is very straight forward, there are 3 paths to the enemy base. To win you must destroy your enemies base. Both teams can have up to 5 players and along each path are towers to destroy. Monsters are spawned endlessly in intervals and if you destroy parts of your enemies base, the monsters on your side get stronger.

You have a large number of unoriginal (often blatantly ripped) characters to choose from and you level your character up and buy them items and upgrades along the way. The formula is so linear that it works across any of the games near perfectly.

League of Legends is notorious for its RAGEQUITS and RAGEFITS and, well, its rage in general. If you're familiar at all with X-box live, that's what you're going to see. LoL is meant to separate newbies and better level play but that doesn't mean everyone doesn't create newbie accounts to roll over newbies.

Heroes of Newerth is considered a higher tier for play and generally has better players but the RAGE is still present.

Dota is considered medium tier play and will involve everyone calling you a stupid noob regardless of how well you're doing in the game. No seriously, you can be dominating a finalist league match and you'll still be the stupid noob. It's not even an insult anymore, it's just how dota players refer to each other.

I don't understand how can any gamer be unfamiliar with DotA. It's so popular that fairly mainstream musicians are writing songs about it. And next to CounterStrike it's the most played game in gaming parlours.

The game type itself isn't unfamiliar to me it was just the abbreviation that I was drawing a blank on
