I've stuck with .34.06 so far. There are only a few minor (what I consider minor) bug fixes in .07 that are relatively avoidable, anyway.

While the whole clothing thing might have been fixed, it's an even bigger mess now as letting your clothes rot off of the poor bastards can cause a tantrum spiral. Trying to keep 200+ dwarves clothed is a chore. The hard part is figuring out what you have and don't have. I pawn off the worn crap onto the caravans, but it's still hard to see what exactly is needed and what isn't because of that delay between an item getting cast off and getting reclaimed. The only trick I've figured out is to use the job manager, see what the dwarves are going to get, if any of it is worn any, use the manager to queue up 60 of that item out of wool, cloth, silk or leather.

after the little goblins arent a problem anymore you just shove them in a room with a couple rhinos and watch hilarity ensue

No, no, no, no. Lock your recruits in there with poor quality wooden weapons. Just make sure to strip them naked before dropping them into the training arena.

Ever had a dwarf child go on rampage after seeing the death of his father by ogre? I have. I almost died laughing when this small child beat the piss out of this monster

But no really, this needs to be fixed. Out of 10 coming immigrants, 5-6 are children. My fortress is one huge daycare with giant parrots killing everything that steps outside.

I honestly have to say... Since the cavern update (it's been a while since that one came out) I've been surprisingly less interested in DF than before. The military update, though it gave more control also gave at least 10x more pain in the ass as well. I've had more dwarves die because they decide their equipment needed for the siege is on the poor sot who got ambushed outside than I ever did in combat with the simple system we had before hand. Also the guarantee of adamantium really degrades its value. And I do miss the days of demon hordes flooding out from the adamantium veins. I had a dwarf fighter achieve god status after she slew 10 tentacle demons with her double artifact short swords. The 11th-15th tore her a new one though and I lost that fortress. But later on I found an immigrant who worshiped her as a god of protection I think it was.

There's a difference between complexity and clunkiness. And DF is quickly sliding down the path to being exponentially more clunky as the complexity increases.

1. You can turn caverns off entirely if you don't like them.
2. Demon hoards still flood out of adamantium veins. Just not a 100% chance since they're not under EVERY vein.
3. If you don't want all your dwarves fight over the sock of a fallen soldier, FORBID them to pick up anything thats dropped by anyone, either yours or theirs.

You can't blame the game for your inability to adapt.

You weren't supposed to be impressed, having lots of children is BAD BAD thing.
They don't work. All they do is eat, shit and sleep. I made a burrow in a seperate room and locked all the children inthere so they'll starve to death or kill eachother due to insanity. IT DIDN'T WORK. One of them went berserk and destroyed the door.

Soon after the rest of them went berserk too (some even became fully grown PEASANTS while imprisoned. Now I have berserk teenagers, too)

Stuff like this is happening all over my fortress...

Also, most of my military consists of the parents of these children (I realized that too late) And they're all "miserable".
I can just hope they kill themselves instead of going on a rampage...

I love Dwarf Fortress.

Yeah, the number of historical figures is a pain in the ass. Using a short history is one way to resolve it, though. I get about a quarter of my immigrants married with or without children with a 250 year history. The 120 year world I generated was lower than that. The problem is still that they come married and quickly have children afterward, though. As far as children not working... eh, get Dwarf Therapist and set it so you can assign child labors. We'll all call you a dirty cheater, but hey, all's fair in dorf war.

Of course, you could always start a !!science!! experiment with the kids in martial education: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=91093.0

And orcling is right: when sieges show up, make sure to set workshop orders and default forbid death items to keep new recruits from looking anywhere other than your armor/weapon stocks. Some people leave these set all the time and claim items a few at a time. I say letting a few civilians act as a shield wall by sending them out to dump a few items can be a good thing (just keep you legendary workers busy and they won't chase after refuse).

I don't mind children born in MY fortress. They're born here so I might aswell care for them and raise em' into useful individuals.
I just don't like it when some parents litter my meeting areas with the children they brought with them.
They're like turks coming to germany with all of their kids, with the parents having no useful skills at all and the kids being useless until coming of age- though most stay useless even after getting old enough.
