I think that there's something fun about carving out a corner of the wilderness and making it into a civilization. I find immense satisfaction in seeing a campground of a leanto and some baskets grow into a paved, brickwalled utopia.

You forgot to study and observe as a category. I think the developers belong in that group somewhat.

I don't. But I used to. Why did I use to? Because it was different from any other mmo. There were no quests no goals no restrictions everything you had you had to build on your own, and the possibilities were endless, carving a patch of civilization of society of order. At the same time there were others who would do the same they carved their own patch some were better at it some were worse but they tried, sure there were disruptive elements but you manned up and took care of them. That's no longer possible any increase in localized order is just a means to an end to further the eventual entropy. As much as I think cakes are useless the game needs more people that bake cakes, plant flowers in front of their mansions and other silly things like that and less people that only do the very limited things that fuel the alt factories, the vaults and the gearing of said alts.

people still do beautiful things avu -

it was my birthday yesterday and my village gave me lovely presents, a hat, cake, and a really nice card (parchment) that made me so happy :)

there is a trader who gives a flower with every trade

look at the brick art thread

i was in brodgar the other day and someone said to me "this is a really good place to live because even though you risk dying there are always people ready to help you get back on your feet" [paraphrased]

etc

yes there are griefers and BAD-EVIL exists, but are plenty of wonderful things if you are actually in the game looking for them... and really the last example is especially wonderful to me, good people refusing to be disheartened by bad things happening to them, and defiantly carrying on.

It was interesting to play for the survival aspect when I was starting out. Now the social side of HnH makes me question humanity.

I play for the findings. I love foraging, discovering and making new things, building characters from the ground up, making villages and cities, training new people, teaching them the game just as they did for me. In w5, I had quite the success, I had 35 people who'd never played before in a small village, learning, having fun, causing problems and fixing their shit, eventually getting good enough at the game to join up with the main village. Hell, one of the guys ended up being better then all our other previous fighters because he loved the combat system so much, it was pretty much all he did.

There's always new people to meet, something else to scavenge, or something to do better. I'm not a big fan of being in a village with lots of drama, but neither do I like being on my own, with nothing but Alts and a small wall to keep me company (Props to you total hermits, I couldn't even dream of doing what you do.)

What I think the game needs is a more even playing field. There needs to be just as much to gain from being a kind ranger with nothing but the clothes on his back, hopping from settlement to settlement, as there is from being a farmer in the largest in game community, as there is from being a dickass raider. The bug abuse, the "I need to wreck it for everyone" mentality, really should have no place in this game. We're all here, dedicating hours of our lives to having a good time, meeting friends and making something. So the one thing I would change is to have the community to band together against that kind of mentality. Make sure that it's known that it's not welcome, and back it up, not just words.

Raiders, Farmers, Miners, and Rangers are all a part of life in Haven, and that's a good thing. People just need to have fun with it.

To answer the OP? More than anything? Diplomacy. I'd love to see built in systems once you have a town up and running allowing treaties, land sharing, war declarations, alliances all the higher end things that happen once towns/cities are built.

I have never played anything like HnH before, and I have been unable to find anything similar that has the same feel.

I love that I start with nothing, and have to roam the wilderness in search of the perfect place to call home. That I have to scrap together twigs and seeds and chase down rabbits until I can inch my roots into the soil. I love the opportunity to wander through forests, mountains and grasslands, finding new things and creating anything and everything from them. HnH gives me a place to play out my desire to be a hermit in the woods (because I can't/won't be one in the real world) without the nastiness of...well, reality (what do you mean I can't live off of apples and water!?).

The other part of it is when I am in a village, I love being able to support others. Need farming/cooking? I'm on it!

My only gripe is the PvP. I have always hated PvP, and I always will. But that's just me being the support personality. I understand that some love the PvP aspect and being able to do pretty much anything. I just hate the idea seeing the work I put into a character or homestead get washed away because someone wanted some fun.

It makes the game what it is, though. I just have to suck it up, let the paranoia set in, and try to not get killed. ^_^

I know lot's of people who disslike raiding and prefer just to harvest crops, but i cannot really understand why they do it every day. I hope you will help and say me what interesting for you in hnh?

Build something together with my friends, grow a city, project it, fatigue over it and reach an objective toghether.
I can't ask nothing more funny and fulfilling than this. I Create with others, feeling usefull, helping my dudes to realize theyr needs or dreams and see our patience grow in beautiness.

Until someone comes to smash my q10 well D:

Edit: Saw this just now
Next question then. What do you think can increase interest to all of this groups in term of long-live world. It seems to me that you can create smth in a months, will it be interesting to defend it for 2 years after that? Or what will you do after exploring whole world? And even after destroing your enemies?

H&H is a primordial game. Once there will be strong faction, collaboration, protections... it need Trade/Roads/Civilization. Reigns. Politic. Big projects.
For example, decide to create a huge garden for the "funny" of build it. Or maibe create a net of roads, find a way to have bridges (a boat system). Have a job, a role in the whole world and not only in yout camp, start to think about add more game mechanism between players without the needs of any update (for example an rpg role city or other crazy ideas), and everything else there is in the world above the Village/Farm/Kill/Raid system.
H&H can have it, but it need collaboration between all the players and this will never happen, 'cuz raid is the aim for most of the players.
Players don't allow H&H to evolve and grow.
Anyway, i'll have tons of ideas if the players decides to grow.
