I only wish we could have done that in W6, when me and a bunch of guys actually did live purely underground. It was bloody hard to do and fish would have made it easier.
Living underground -should- be hard, otherwise everybody would do it. However I am in favor of a few extra cave goodies for those wanna be goblins and troglodytes.
1. Edible mushrooms. OR, make existing mushrooms edible.
2. Giant toadstool. One toadstool can give you something which functions the same as one block of wood.
3. Bats. Kind of like a flying rabbit. You can grab them out of the air like you might grab a dragon fly or a ladybug. Can be killed in your inventory in exchange for bat meat, and bones.
4. Giant spider webs. Can be harvested for string.
That is about it really. They can all spawn in rarer amounts than their counterparts above ground. And any kind of intensive farming underground should absolutely be out of the question I think.
Giant spider webs?would there be a new mob called a giant spider?
Ehem. I have experience in Dwarf Fortress. Yes but more precisely, Chrismas; Giant "Cave" Spiders. How exotic they shall be, with their paralyzing venom in combat, not to debilitate totally like in DF, but rather to make combat VERY difficult. And their webs will slow down attacks even more for their opponents! Possibly also the cooldowns should be raised in accordance with the venom. If killed (which would be a herculean task) they would grant as much meat as Troll, maybe more or less. Just voicing out my thoughts. Oh also as an extra nerf for caves? (Thanks for the word Flame) The webs will counteract would-be elven/dwarven rangers. Yeah thats right, very little room for exploit with this strict ideal.
