Really Xcom? you had to point such things out for abuse?

Please stop

It took a week to set this up and it was only 1000 supports. Noone on this server is ambitious enough to setup a large area with supports like that let alone over a 300x300 area. That would take over a month or maybe more and its 90% clear cutting woods. Even with scripts its painfully slow.

"Painfully slow" is not an issue comparing to world's duration. The main thing is it can be achieved by repetitive simple actions with cheap materials, so it won't be too hard for a group of players botting with a few windows.

@GrapefruitV I think if anyone spends a month building a vault they should be rewarded for having a hard to penetrate vault, effort vs reward and all that.

But I did a scan on the cavins on a 50 tile long 1 tile wide strip and it came out as around 200 -210 cavins meaning 4 cavins per tile. Even if you had a 300x300 area you wonld just need to bash through 150 tiles meaning 4x150 = 600 cavins. That would take less then an hour and a high STR toon would be able to bash 1 cavin per stamina bar meaning only 600 HHP dmg. You could use your miner alt to do it then send him home to heal while you setup the ram up against the wall and then rammed the vault. Its not exactly impenetrable it just looks both cool and takes a ton more effort to get through.

@PolyMcFee and Gemini Sorry for losing the stuff. All I knew at the point of bashing was that it would most likely just cascade. The crash and rollback was unexpected. Good part about it is that this particular bug wont ever cause more rollbacks anymore as loftar did fix it.

Well, yeah, was thinking this is not such a good vault myself, but didn't want to say that outloud hoping someone would go through that effort without thinking :D (surprisingly not everyone know those boulders can be destroyed). Also such vault would attract too much attention and most likely attempts to raid it out of pure curiosity. But it is still entirely possible and we saw similar time and materials consuming work before. W6 statue walls for instance. AD completely walled few pretty large cities and each statue worth atleast 2 trees, not even talking about ore, smelters, kilns and all the effort.

Well that explains a few things! Luckily I'm already pretty low on the "Have" pole so this rollback didn't really harm me in anyway. We also got an entertaining couple of videos out of it. Whenever something like this that could cripple the server is discovered it's a good thing in my opinion. Building a bunch of supports just to see what would happen from a reaction is JUST the kinda thing people will do with their spare time after certain parts of the game have been discovered enough. That's how you find Easter eggs, secrets, and yes exploits and the like. Testing the waters of the unknown is a courageous task.

Hell, that's how a lot of the best stuff we have today came into being. "I wonder what would happen if...hmm...sounds crazy but let's give it a go!"

Good times, good times.

I don't get the hate.
Those guys were having some, mostly, harmless fun; and they tested server stability to boot.

I applaude the creativity, dedication, and sheer autism that this experiment required.
