Completely agree. In the meantime: BOTS.

god, they should just make a cash shop for hafen that is purely cosmetic like changing hair/face, and pets... I would pay for an mohawk. The thing is people don't want to pay unless everyone knows that they payed, that's really the core purpose of cosmetic items.
Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

A cash shop isn't "just" made ... you'll need to code, set up and maintain a bizness structure. And you can't just rely on only using Paypal if you don't want to exclude people. While i'm not against cosmetics nor payment i personnally better would like a one time payment per account (with color dying ingame plus different outlooks to choose from when creating chars).

And with some exploitable holes (i.e. run speed through stuff you'd normally shouldn't be able to pass through) still, i guess cosmetics to me is not important.
Mechanics first! :)

Cash shops also bring in the issue of handling the income, taxation if appropriate, receipts, and what to do if something goes haywire.

Honestly, I'd rather see Jorb and Loftar tackling actual bugs and mechanics issues rather than worrying about cosmetics for cash.

(But if it makes people feel better I was ALWAYS down with new costume packs when I played City of Heroes :) )

Cash shops

How about "Donations" and "rewards", no receipts beyond what they already have, free in game item with every donation.

Bound to accounts or bound to characters, though? And how do you evade the issue of people taking the 'pay to win' route?

Characters to discourage alts and bots. And we're talking about cosmetics only.

Maybe ~q20 tools wouldn't matter much? No picks though, maybe...

Honestly, I think you'd be better off with account-bound, cosmetic options only.

The game has a stiff learning curve (comparable to Dwarf Fortress), and permadeath, while it's not TOTALLY the end, can severely jack a character. Imagine the added frustration of paying, oh, say US$3 for a q20 tool... only to suffer a burst of lag that allows a bear to wander over and eat you. Yeah, granted it's only three bucks... but you might as well have just set them on fire.

Very few games have successfully monetized with 'serious death consequences'. Make no mistake, I like the game, but I think any attempt at injecting monetization into it will require some serious review of the mechanics and systems.
