Why not take a peek? Because that leaves a theft clue, and the people who find the clue know that the person who left it (a) knows this and (b) could not have opened the container by accident, unlike the problem of accidental trespass.

Put another way, if you take a peek at someone's stuff and they happen to take violent objection to this, well, that's your tough luck. You _could_ have been scouting for valuables and the owner may want to take preemptive action before you get lucky and find something you consider worth stealing.

Also, there's the problem of multiple clues - if 3 people peek in the same container, and one of them removes something the owner cares about, the owner will presume they are all guilty - if they even notice that there are 3 different clues.

Lets also not forget that it's plain rude and an invasion of privacy.

I don't like people going into my house AT ALL without asking my permission, let alone rummaging around in my stuff

yeaaa im pretty rude, i was pretty curious about how most places were doing so i tended to check there stuff... But i havent been leveling my stealth lately and overtime i guess everyones exploration got better ;)
Plus i occasionly look in containers to see if i can find stolen goods [provided they are near the hearth of the person im tracking]
I'll try and keep my rudeness to a absolute minimum / not at all though, my bad really.

I killed a griefer at the RoB today. A trap of fireplaces was set all around him, and when he poked his head out from behind a pillar to light one and escape I dropped him. Don't come after me, I did a good thing.

So, was his hearth fire behind a pillar, or did you just wall in the whole RoB? Was it JTG?

He and his hearth were behind a pillar, and he claimed not to be JTG. A friend and I attempted to wall him in after seeing his theft scents all over the place.

He may not have been JTG. He stole from many settlements to the north of RoB. He is back, but half as powerful. The RoB griefers seem to be using some sort of macro to let their characters sit idle, yet not afk, so they can accumulate time invested towards Belief changes, specifically a high Tradition score for obvious reasons. Can we put a stop to that?

If you looked at the screenshot I linked to, you would see that JTG admitted it was him.

Personally, I'm just going to come clean. The way I've been working ingame and the forums is to just make the community as bitter as possible. Its worked, the posts that get removed edited and deleted are just ment to bother people.

The fact of the matter is. As much as I like being a thief and a griefer, seeing clayshire and laketown diminish, allowing a shit community like bottleneck have more influence on the game is something I don't like. Clayshire was a good place full of innovative people Its done. Laketown is a good place but its been getting stagnant. It was nowhere near as good as clayshire in its day. Bottleneck has always been a terrible place. Behind the curve, and full of morons.
