If it's for kids, then you have a great incentive to join. Pedo
Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

Oh, it's been playable for a while, but there isn't enough content to satisfy anyone. We need to redo villages and a lot more of the UI before we even consider doing anything else. Jackard is slowly making progress on up'ing the crafting system to be top-tier, so we'll have a solid game when it's all said and done.
EDIT: I should mention that it's still closed alpha
