Sorry man, arguing the meaning of words (what we call "arguing semantics") doesn't change the validity of the underlying point:
Botting effects the economy.

You apparently disagree with me about the definition of the word "economy" and "price".
My assertion stands with the generally understood definition of "economy" and "price" that involves the exchange of goods, and the value of goods exchanged.

Alternatively,
I deny your assertion that an arbitrary number listed on the forum is the true value of a commodity. Reasons listed in my previous post.

I see your point and it would be correct for real life, but Haven's market is too simple and has not enough tools for all the economics laws to fully apply. Community is small enough for value to be individual for every player, besides game currency has alternative usage and can be converted into lp or used as crafting material.

*sigh*
Let me put it in even simpler terms then:
Everyone who bots lives in a first world country. They get paid $20 an hour playing Haven.
Everyone who does not bot lives in a third world country. They get paid $.50 an hour playing Haven.

They both share the same market.

Pearls cost $50.
If you work in the third world, it takes 100 hours to earn that.
If you work in the first world, it takes 2 1/2 hours.

Please pick inane argument:
A. Do you dispute that botting makes you more productive?
B. Do you dispute that this is "the economy"?
C. Do you assert that "it does not matter because I earn all my stuff by hand and that's okay."

And some global shit like ebay doesn't really care in which country do you live, same pants cost same 50$ for all countries. Point is this doesn't affect market, simple as that. It's not like amount of produced goods matter, when it's all just some pixels and resources are infinite. From outside market in foraging bots free w5 looked pretty much same as market in w7, changed value of pearls you are talking about is most likely nothing more than your own experience projection, value of every item goes down with gaming experience growing. Pearls and edels are not dollars, they never can get cheaper than lp they give and can't really get much higher aswell. Inflation is not really a thing in Haven world as long as you can study the currency.

Except bluebells and toadstools got really inflated by Ainran publicly selling a bunch of botted ones for practically free. I'm pretty sure someone sold pearls for 40 points each, whereas they used to be "50" pts (you would need to pay less if paid in pearls) and now some don't even take pearls. And that was his point I guess, if they cost $50 in all countries, an American gets that in 2 hours and a north African gets it in 10 days, it matters.

I am still waiting for Alg to post the market data graphs he and Rawrz were working on last night. I saw one for the price of BBC from W5-W7 and because of the devaluation in pearls most of all, the price has most certainly increased over time. I think I remember he said things didn't change much over W5-W6 but W7 the prices have risen dramatically.

And my point is it was same before bots :)
Value always was individual, for example I was taking pearls only for 30pts long before pearl collecting bot became public (and even before first good one was written), because I valued space in my cbs higher, but not high enough to not accept pearls at all. There always were people not accepting pearls. I don't see what bots really changed on market. Yeah, there were some splashes of bots caused sales now and then, but you really can't make enough bluebells or pearls per day to sell it dirt cheap regularly, you would need few good PCs for that, it is possible in theory, but no one hates this game enough to go through such effort and remain active for a long time.

You're breaking my heart now, because we went through some effort to lower prices in general (we never touched food though). Tables, looms and wood in general cost few times less now. Also it is hard to get correct data, because best threads usually remain active through worlds and prices are dynamic, so you can't really see that this particular trader was selling tables for 400pts before he was undercut to 100. Should look like that:
