now why in the world would someone do this without offering a worthy replacement

your disagreeing with how #haven is run doesnt make it less 'public' or somehow mandate its removal

Because whether there is a 'worthy' replacement or not, that channel is no longer a worthy candidate for 'public' and hasn't been for a long time.

Now why are you chiming in as if your opinion actually mattered?

Asserting the channel is not worthy of being popular does not make it so!

If the channel weren't the only one do you think people would join. Oh wait, banning people for a day just as a joke is typical and fun all around! Disagree with a goon? Dat der is a week ban.

The only reason channels of that nature ever end up with more than 10 users is when it's the only channel, if someone made an IRC channel properly done and had mature Ops/Hops, do you really think anyone would still join SynIRC's #haven? Maybe the people still using Pacho's, that's about it.

Sounds like maybe someone should do something about it, if they feel strongly enough and are committed to following through with the idea!

or people could continue making ineffectual complaints and handwringing on the forums, i guess

I doubt anyone's going to make a parallel channel, but if they do that's cool.

Check the number of people in there now versus a month ago during downtime (pacho users offline).

It does have some base in the game as well, but every time all the goons get angry they tend to ban people for nothing (last time I checked in there were 27 bans listed, and that was a few days ago, compared to the relative 0 that was held up until around 2 months ago).

Hell, after Rage got 'rekilled' sabinati kickbanned a new person who came in and asked a question, a question on game mechanics.

The guy was unbanned later that day, but the point is if the Ops/Hops are so unstable, why bother? If you can't ask a simple question without getting banned, a question that has no ulterior motive and doesn't serve to upset anyone, simply to gain information, why bother?

Assuming that the thread of a lot of goons quitting is a farce and you guys do plan on staying, it would be nice if a proper channel had Ops/Hops from all major factions so that it isn't weighted, that includes goons.

It's not who, it's how it's run. Most of my dislike for you chaps stems from the way it's run.

I like to think I am one of the more reasonable ads in there and that people would come to me if they had a problem with one of the mods. In all these months only 2 people have ever whispered me, and I unbanned both. I guess I just don't see the problem.

@OP: less talk more action! If all those who've been wronged by the mighty goon IRC lords would stick together and actually do something apart from crying about it (yes, I'm thinking of setting up a new IRC channel) and asking/advertising around on here a bit (again, not by bitching but by actually proving they are less childish than the current guys in charge), maybe there would be some new developments for a neutral/New'N'Improved/non-goon IRC.

That's what I think about it anyway. This is, like, the 4th thread about IRC tyranny in the last month and I bet it won't the last, considering what AD's latest achievement brought upon the Hearthlands.
