I'd agree if the game was about to live and being fair was a issue, but for the moment we're still in the testing phase and having everyone lose all their progress every time some big change is about to be implemented would only serve to push the oldest play testers away.

This way people who have been around for a long time get a clear advantage, but still have to rebuild like everyone and skill doesn't effect the speed of that too much. If they can't take items from the previous map then they'll be more or less at the same speed as everyone else, baring the fact they can at least kill bears and the like I guess.

Which brings the other issue, to test the next features it would be handy to have players with all the skills so problems can come up quicker relating to them and get sorted. Either way it's going to be chaotic. Middle of the road reset sounds ideal for giving new players a chance to catch up, and old players a running start. That and I want the few skills I've learned over this past week to stick as they would be annoying to get back.

I will illustrate my views on a character reset with the following short story:

There once was a little house in the outskirts of suburbia, in which lived two boys and their parents. One day, the family had to pack up and move to a different city. Unfortunately, the new house was much smaller, so the boys had to leave most of their things behind. The elder brother missed his old fort in the woods, and many other of the neat things he had built during his time at play. The younger brother could not bring his mud pies he had made down by the riverbank. However, neither really cared; they were going to a new, fresh place; and they'd be able to build all they wanted.

After their first day in the new house, 8:00 rolled around, and the parents asked the younger child to go to bed. Both boys had bedtimes, the younger's being at 8:00, and the elder's at 9:00. He complained, "My elder brother gets to stay up till 9:00, I should be able to as well!" The parents admonished their child, reminding him that his brother had an 8:00 bedtime when he was younger, and he had never complained. Bedtimes were based on your age, and when the younger brother got older, he would have a later bedtime still.

However, the younger brother wined and wined, saying it was unfair, and that when his bedtime was finally pushed back, his brother would get to stay up even later. Finally the parents said to one another, "Let's just let him have his way; how much harm could it do?" And so the winy little brother got to stay up till 9:00.

The elder brother saw this, and was angered. "I had an 8:00 bedtime when I was his age, but this little whiner gets to stay up till 9:00? Life is so unfair." The elder brother took to braking his sibling's mud pies, and tormenting him whenever he had the chance. And so the two grew estranged, and hated each other until their dieing days.

Well I suppose I'll just give my opinion now..

For the reset, I'd say that the idea of giving all characters a basic set again, like when starting, would be a good idea.
However I think it might be nice to have some of the older players keep their more higher grade tools and equipment, if only a few of them.
Maybe players who have...say collected over 60k LP would start out with a Saw and any non-handheld equipment(so no swords, BAxes, Pickaxes, and the like.) they had on.

There are probably better solutions, but thats just my input.

Avoiding all the other problems with your analogy, in this case members of both parties would like a reset without benefits.
Also all you people who do not understand that the inventory reset is not due to people carrying shit over, but rather due to a quality system being added.
So regardless of how much you want to bring over your saw and axe, the best way is to remove everything.
I say this as a player with multiple millions of LP.

I only support a full reset if I get to respawn as a werewolf in a diaper.

Delamore, I understand what you're saying. However, I never said it was a good analogy, only that I feel the same way about it as I do the character reset. And when I mean character reset, I mean a complete one, with all your millions of hard-earned LP gone out the window. I simply feel that those who have been here longer should not see all their LP gone for the incredibly stupid desire of "equality." As for losing my items, I certainly would not mind giving up my steel sword and plate mail if item quality were to be added.

If item quality is implemented, the natural thing to do is to make existing items become the lowest possible quality. That's what happened when generic "swords" were replaced with "militia swords" and "soldier's swords" - all the existing swords became militia swords.
