lol where do you guys all hear about these things? its so amazing
btw, ive actually heard - no i havent read it myself - that it got better with the 3rd volume with swiss move, but still more deaths are coming and many may find it a bit too overwhelming.

It's not that his characters die, it's that they die to preposterous diabolus ex machinas (ha! ha! i am suddenly standing on a mountain now with all of my guards!)

it does not satisfy

If you want a good manga with death and intelligent characters read Advance of the Giants http://www.mangareader.net/shingeki-no-kyojin

Vinland Saga is great, I've read it a few months ago, this thread reminded me to check out for new chapters.

I do like the plot Otoyomegatari has, and of course the drawings are the most detailed ones that I have ever seen on a manga. Some OP shit right there. I already enjoyed reading some issues of it but the only negative thing is it's confusing where to read. It keeps switching or it's just me having no obvious idea where to place my eyes on next, hence reading manga is confusing for me. It's a manga and you of course read it backwards traditionally, aka on the right side. But imo it would have been much easier to get the hang of the plot if it was on the left side. On the other hand, I enjoy it.

I've heard of Vinland Saga before. Now that you are mentioning it, I've taken a look and holy shit, it reminds me of Haven and Hearth alot. :)
