It was with much regret that I informed you all of the death of Maker and the end of his journey. However, where his story ends a new story begins. This is the story... of Virgil Caine.

Image

The story begins with our protagonist, Virgil Caine, befriending a nice young lady from the village of Pandemonium. With the encroaching Korean kingdom to the south, young Virgil was determined to gain entrance to a cave he spent an entire day searching for prior, despite the obvious signs of a possible hostile takeover.

But sometimes, things don't always work out the way you planned.

With about two day's time and effort gone into finding the cave, securing it, and gaining entrance to it, it turns out they couldn't even enter the blasted thing. It's a mystery that will haunt Virgil for the rest of his days. Now, some of you are probably thinking right now, "Well, what did he do? Surely he found some way of getting into it. If he spent so much time finding the cave he didn't just give up right then and there?"

Well he did. Virgil was so distraught that he called it quits right then and there. With so much time and effort down the drain, he simply didn't have the energy to do it all over again.

But like I previously stated, things don't always work out the way you planned.

Now, that young lady from Pandemonium. She wasn't one to just give up. When she saw Virgil moping around she grabbed him by the ear and kicked him in the pants and told him that you can't just give up when things don't work out the way you wanted it. Sometimes you just have to keep working and working until it does, it just gives you a greater sense of accomplishment in the end.

After some thought Virgil agreed that the young lady was right without a doubt. If he gave up now what would all his time and effort amount to?

The young lady admired Virgil's sincerity to continue and thought he could use all the help he could get, so she invited him to her village so young Virgil could get off on the right foot.

(I have some screenshots of Pandemonium but I won't post them in respect for their kindness in allowing me into their village, but I have to say that it was marvelous and I will never forget my time there.)

Virgil was given many items that he would never have obtained himself in a lifetime and was nearly overcome with emotion at the generosity. The young lady saw much potential in Virgil and wished him well in his journeys.

And so, outfitted in the best equipment and with a sore ear, he set out into the wilderness to find a land he could call his own and he will forever carry with him the memories of that wonderful young lady from Pandemonium.

DAY 1

"My name is Virgil Caine, and this is a story of my beginning. It seems like so long ago when I set out on my arduous journey from the great kingdom of Pandemonium, only to wind up thousands of miles away in a remote stretch of virgin wilderness. Let these following pages tell my tale as I write it, for should I fall to bandit's arrow or beast's tooth, I will live on in this story."

"When I chose this location to begin my life, I didn't know what was in store for me. I envisioned myself huddled in a leanto, my sanity clinging desperately to the last flickering embers of my fire as the sounds of the night slowly enveloped me. In fact, I don't think I ever had a night like that. My imagination tends to get the best of me, you see. No, my first night was actually quite relaxing. I had a big day ahead of me and mother nature seemed to know."

"As soon as I felt the warmth of the morning sun on my skin, I went straight to work building the foundation of my settlement. Sweat poured from my brow as I felled trees left and right with my mighty stone axe, quickly turning them into the materials for my future. My first project was to build a house to store all the materials I'd collect. One cannot build a future on dreams alone."

"My first official day in my new settlement was very uneventful. Many logs were collected, many boards and blocks of wood were crafted. I am very hopeful for my new settlement and I think things are going to work out just fine."

DAY 2

Image

"I finally finished my house. I know there are many others like it but this is MY house. During my exploration of the surrounding area I came across some pumpkins growing in a small clearing. Whether they were planted intentionally or they grew wild I will never know, but I ate two of them and took the seeds for my own little pumpkin patch back home. Pumpkins are great and all when you've got nothing else to eat, but I long for the day I can make a pie out of them. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water."

"Oh yes! I went hunting today. I think I did pretty well. I managed to bring back a wild boar and a fox. I've already built the drying frames in advance, however I wasn't expecting to fill them both up in one day! I think I'll call it an early day after I finish cleaning and butchering them so I can think about what to do next in my settlement. Sure I could be happy with just this house but why stop there? Call it pride but what's wrong with wanting more for yourself if you're willing to put in the work for it?"

"On a side note, a fellow I met awhile back who goes by the name of Apep will be joining me here in my settlement. He's supposed to arrive tomorrow, so I better prepare some things before his arrival."

DAY 3

Image

"It's only been three days and you couldn't even tell by looking at my settlement now! Where to begin? Well, Apep arrived late last night. We managed to get a lot of work done in the settlement. We built a road and started collecting lumber for materials, but what a surprise we were in for while we were out cutting logs today."

"Far to the south of our settlement in thick of the forest we came across a small campsite. Linen clothes were littered across the ground as we came upon a young man hunched over a fire cooking what looked like rats on a stick. He seemed a bit threatened by our presence, perhaps scared. We assured him we meant no harm as he began to tell us how he had been camping there with a friend when they were set upon by wild boars. His friend was eaten alive by the voracious pigs and he was all alone."

"Judging by the squalor that he now lived in I couldn't in good conscience just walk away. I invited him to stay with us in our settlement, and he agreed. His name is Seanr, by the way. He's a bit slow but he's a hard worker and I haven't regretted my decision since."

"With three people now living in our settlement we've almost got the appearance of a small village. But with just the one house we'd need to expand. It didn't take us long to build three more houses, one for each of us to live in. The timber house we used to reside in was converted into a storage house and the road was extended."

"I have taken on the role of provider. I hunt for all of us and today's hunt was great. I brought back two stags, with hind legs as wide as a man. We will be eating well tonight!"

I think I've forgotten the thrill and fulfillment of playing this game, but you've reminded me of that.

Thanks to your story, I'm going to start playing again tomorrow. Good luck on this!
