FTFY

Unless you can point me at a sandbox game where you don't have to grind, of course, then I'll concede the point. But wait.... it's a game. Games are, by nature, somewhat repetitive and thus grindy. So maybe I should change that to "ALL games are built like that"

All games? Hardly. But as for sandbox RPGs, yes, pretty much every one of them is a grind. Quite sad.

It's so grindy to go foraging for an hour collecting curios and putting your hearthling to bed for several hours while you can do anything else.

Seriously, you can not call this game a grind. The only thing "grindy" about it is establishing large structures, like walls and mansions. Those are both large industrial projects and shouldn't be thrown up easily by a single person, though.

Sure this game had grind in the olden days because the only way to gain efficient LP was to do certain tasks, but with the curio system once you're even simply established the game has no grind at all; do whatever you want, the only thing to worry about is if you have curios studying when you log off.

Are you fucking serious? Minecraft is nothing but grind, and Terrarria is grindy enough for its scale of persistance. Garry's Mod I don't know about, but that's like MC creative mode where you just spawn everything anyway.

Protip: Don't make Seer's Bones unless you've already made a ton of Primitive Dolls.

5 Bones = 1 Seer's Bones
5 Bones = 5 Primitive Dolls

I'll let y'all work out the LP gain difference there.

Real life is a grindfest.

Isn't that why we all play H&H?

You have a point, that is grind. Now, what do you offer as an alternative?

That's your choice. I don't find any grind in FEPs except occasionally if I am down a particular stat that is hard to find food for. Sure the FEP system could be worked a little better to be more helpful to you, but it's not grind. Actually having to cook a wide variety of foods to keep my FEP consumption balanced is one of the more interesting aspects of the game; really grinding has nothing to do with how I play since grinding is doing the same tasks repetitively for the same outcome. With food and FEPs in the hearthlands, I keep my characters as diverse as I can given my level of development; this keeps my food supply diverse, and the actions to acquire the food, diverse. Completely the opposite of grind -- but that's how I CHOOSE TO PLAY. If someone chooses to make the same meal and get the same FEPs over and over to raise the exact same set of stats, well that's their choice.

Quality grind? Doesn't matter unless YOU make it matter. The closest to quality grind you really need to focus on is the generalities; stay above q10, and it's best if you can be q40 or more in mid-game. Other than that you don't have to grind quality unless your product quality being less is somehow a slight on your masculinity and you feel compelled to participate in the "pissing contest" of quality grind. I understand that quality is relative, and so when I sell or trade products I'm willing to sell them more cheaply and/or to a different market (mainly, people who aren't as developed as I am).

If you play with grind in your mindset, you'll find grind.

Now world 3, sure I'll agree there was grind; near the last half of world 3, I become the last active member of my village, and if I wasn't grinding LP when I was on, the village authority was constantly dropping. Even with that I had to tear down banners and oath in people from Hivemind to help me keep authority stable.

Are there boring, droll, repetitive tasks in the Hearthlands? Sure. Hell the last week of World 5 was spent doing nothing but building a brickwall around my village (which was a minor annoyance that it got wiped right after). But that doesn't neccessarily mean the game is a grind.
