Yeah and a guy a few replies before said the 100% opposite, that you should get proper gear asap to not look like a noob anymore.

Well tell me what to do. I'm a big noob playing only a few days. I've read much about the game so knew I should get a wall fast. I was working hard to get the resources and skills to get a pallisade. I've been 100% peaceful didn't steal/gank or whatever. I avoided people and when I couldn't I was friendly.

Then some nooby gank squad showed up.
I had a claim but they can just walk over it.
I was farming my carrots and got killed. I said hi, was wearing noob gear. I wasn't aggressive at all. Still got killed. Was there a single thing I could have done to prevent it the moment it happened?

Get 20 MM and make a bear cape. I've found that many people who are petty enough to kill newbies are too cowardly to attack someone who might actually have skills like ranging, rage and murder. Not that having a bear cape gives you any of those things, but it at least says my character wasn't born an hour ago.

The only thing to do in that situation is hit log out and hope...
a) It works
b) you get it in time before you get aggrod

You then have to sit around and wait for a while before logging back in to assess the damage they did (Or log in an expendable alt to check when it's safe), Probably dumping everything you own on the floor and destroying a few things, then keep going.
Until you have a palisade nothing you have should be considered safe and you should expect for everything to be gone when you next log in. Even when you have a palisade it's not really that safe... This far into the world there are a fair amount of people who can knock it down for kicks I imagine, though your chances increase a lot that you have some safety until you find iron.

Huh?

@Zandar, you probably read my previous post so you know I am kinda with you here on this and it is pretty unfortunate that HnHs current status might deter people from playing Salem later on. Because HnH only is in this state right now, because the devs are focussing all their energy on the new game to avoid making mistakes they have made here. So don't judge about Salem by looking at HnH. HnH hasn't seen any real updates in a year now and no policing by the devs over bug abuse and exploiting either so the community has shifted drastically since the last updates.

People realized they can do whatever they want, driving away many honest players at least on a competitive level so that no in game police force is left either. On the small scale however I am sure the game can still provide tons of fun and that not everyone gets killed all the time especially not when they follow some ground rules. Just consider it to be a lesson learned and keep trying, maybe join an established village, or make a journey to find less populated places.

Yes but because of that this could only be fixed by the community isn't it?

I mean I can't pay a bountyhunter to go kill my killers. But I would chop trees for him for 2 days on a row if he would.
Trading systems like that can be created here by the community on the forum without the devs.

Well, they can and have been created in the past. I myself always belonged to one of the biggest peaceful factions (even when haters claim we were just as bad as some raiders, but let's not make this the topic here) and the problem right now is that you will be fighting a massive uphilll battle if you want to fight criminal factions on a large scale.

The exploits they are using you will have to use as well in a first step or you are already lost (that will then lead to those haters calling you just as bad). Then the criminals have so called hearthvault systems, where they can just jump with their hearthfires from one to the next within seconds while it takes you 24 hours to set up a ram and you need to constantly guard it. And even if you then get inside you can only kill one of their chars. With the current system it is easy to produce real armies of characters once you reach economical late game that this doesn't hurt them the least bit and also their actual towns often are anonymous so you cannot hit their production facilities properly.

That lead to at least the biggest police factions giving up. In previous worlds they pretty much controlled the entire hearthlands and criminals mostly met their untimely end and big criminal factions didn't even exist. The metagame has shifted towards a barbaric system and away from civilization though. Some even prefer it to be this way I guess.

If you are interested in hearing more then we might take this to pms and I can answer some questions.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want a police state and I don't mind that there are raiders. That's part of the game and part of the fun.
What I do mind is that there's nothing to do against them for new players.
If there was a way for me as a noob to hire someone to kill my killers it would be fine for me, because at the very least I'd knew there was an option to do something about it if I really wanted.

Agreed, a police state with absolute power would be just as boring and bad.

6 time is a lot. My opinion is that you spawned and settle with your friends near one of those criminal settlement that grief and murder who ever they encounter and seam to have weaker character than theirs. Pack you stuff and try to find a more friendly place, they are some even in W6. And honestly when you travel they are pretty obvious. Its easy to see if a palisade was forced and if you have swearing rune stones everywhere, and spot people just left because they don't play anymore. If you ee people try to block your boat, steal it, then just leave for better place. But ye you are never safe from one of those guy that will just try to kill you as soon as they see you. 6 time still seam very unlikely unless you are near a greifer/murderer town.

Ps i have made a post about a faction map exactly for this kind of reason, if you are new avoid the bigger "greifer" factions.

I'm realy enjoying this discussion, i wish i'd found the game when it was a bit more balanced, like the op, i wouldn't want a police state either but it would be nice to have some kind of 'Justice' faction that would help out the newer, weaker or more peaceful settlements that don't have the means of paying for protection or seeking revenge.
It appears that would be impossible to achieve in the games current state as the worst players seem to be untouchable.
