It's hard to consider a game more "free" when because of the current system, you can only really play how you want, if you want to play in a specific way, and still probably die and lose progress a lot. Or if you want to die a lot. Then you can play how you want, too. :p

And I think one of the big differences between HnH and real life is that people tend to be nicer in real life, because (a ton of) people become raging jerks as soon as you put them behind the anonymity of a computer screen and username. (Especially here, where you can't even see the character name. Not saying that that's a bad thing in general, it's kinda neat, but it does add to the anonymity). In real life, the fact that they have to function in a society and deal with the opinions of other people on a day to day basis keeps a *lot* of people (I think) from being the bags of dicks that they can be in HnH without anything to stop them.

Ah, but that's where you're wrong.
I'm always a bag of dicks on these forums and this is the only account on the forums I use.
Why, you ask?
Because I can always make a new account which can't happen in real life.
In H&H, you don't just "die".
You die if you're not careful, fast, or no-lifey enough.
As I said, protect yourself, THEN do what you want.
Emerald City was (and still is) a peaceful village in W6, but very powerful. How dafuq, you ask?
They got bad ass friends and BW protection, and some (I think) battle chars, one of which I'm 100% sure has 1000 UA.
Emerald never died.
Will you die?

Sometimes i wish that aswell but i guess that "awareness of maybe getting harmed" factor is the part which makes HnH

Again: you confuse Anarchy with Chaos - in Chaos the strong rule or want to rule because they're strong and can easy opress weaker - Anarchy means "no ruling - not wanting to rule or to be ruled" (Anarchy doesn't exlude order - and it's probably more anarchistic to be a helpfull hearthling than to be a raider)

@NOOBY the difference HnH and RL is not that you have no Permadeth in HnH - the difference is that in RL someone can beat you up in ways that you're still alive but won't be able to enjoy it (and "beat you up" is not just meant physically) - in HnH you just can play on or quitt...

Ah, yes. Forgot that one.
In other words, nobody can force you to play the way you don't want to in H&H because you can just quit playing.
"jails" = bad idea.
Hope you mean it in this way.
Edit: Then again you have people who believe in afterlife and kill themselves.
I can connect RL and H&H 100% in this case.

I play h&h.
When someone decide to raid my village, i rebuild it. To steal my stuff, i re-craft it.
When someone will decide to kill my main, i'll quit H&H.

Chara skills are the most important things in this game and you can't just rebuild it in no time.
Too much time involved on grow a main, playing few h at day. In one year of game i reached my best chara: 100 expl - 100 mm - 100 surv - 60 smith.
That's the best i can do if i don't wanna waste all my life on a game.
When that time will be stealed by a random griefer, i'll quit until next world. H&H totally ignore real life. The forced competition with other players force you to be fast, smooth, well armed, strong, protected by high walls and so on.
And honestly, no videogame in world can "force" me to change my routine.
When H&H (or his players in fact) will ask to me to Change my routine, my life time, i'll click on the big X.
Back to reality, the time will not come back.

This is some deep poetry, but what makes it even better is your English. Looks like a wise old man said it.

And..just to point it: My main died yesterday. By a boar. So it's not a generic "if i die i quit roarrr"

But all i could do was...laugh. I've put a boat in front of me while i was trying to escape. I got stucked by my own boat and the boar oneshotted me. That wasn't so smart and at this point of the game i can really enjoy my disasters and distractions. XD

My friends wanna build a sanctuary for me and this time that skull will be of some kind use.
Can't wait for it!
Anyone of you know if also this world have my statue somewhere?

Ps: This mean that my english improved a little. Hurray!! \o\

This world. . .
So far has been spectacular. We've never met so many hearthlings nor kinned so many either. We've already setup quite a few good connections and we don't mind what country or race they are. We've even taken in a new villager whom has been a wonderful addition to our up'n'coming village.
Most of us have 2 or 3 characters. Most of us also have lives so we juggle our time and we're in no rush to out do anyone else, except to get the village we want up and running. I appreciate the neighbors we have because they haven't been withdrawn nor been a hassle.
