Damnit now I feel like an idiot. I stand by my statement, an image is an image, and while the source of the image is shameful the image itself shows nothing bad. Its less offensive than mine, if taken at face value. I am ashamed of defending him though, simply because of who he is.

I get what you are saying with regard to the image and on the one hand I agree with you, however, on the other hand the connotations behind the image change it significantly for me.
If it was my forum, i'd go one step further than removing the avatar ..................

An image is just an image, to be honest I watched the first episode of Boku no Pico just now, and while it's not appropriate for younger viewers, there is nothing inapropriate about having an non pornographic image from it as your avatar.

It disgusts you? Grow the fuck up. There is nothing immoral, or wrong about homosexuality, and Boku no Pico highlights that rather well. If he had an avatar that was a female porn star, fully dressed then I doubt anyone would bat an eyelid. And even more than that, his avatar is CARTOON.

Legally, yes Lolicon and Shotacon are protected under the First Amendment (in the USA, naturally) so long as the scenes are not depictions of real events. This was not always the case, but eh... I think that is more a case of technicalities than the acceptability of the media itself. The fact that it can be argued that it is a form of expression, and lack of direct victims are thin excuses in my opinion. Escalation must be examined as a factor here.

Whatever you might want to argue, shota and loli are sexual fantasies made by adults for adult audiences, usually containing some sort of pornographic act, be it "soft core" or "hard core". They are what they are by definition, not by specific shows. If a show doesn't fit that definition, then it should probably be classified as something else in the anime/manga sphere.

I'd want to see some sort of legal precedent for that as there was a guy arrested in my locale a year or two ago for holding a hard drive full of lolicon (full-on porn stuff). I don't recall him being accused of actually assaulting any minors or having any "live action" child porn. The local police had tracked him through torrents and chat and busted him for trading it or something along those lines. Yes, I'm in the US.
