Let me share with you some tales of a sysadmin.
Today, I investigated the claims of alter and tkearns in this thread, and a third PM I got with complaints of me having ignored his first incomprehensible PM from a month ago. Without mentioning names specifically, the conclusion of these three cases turned out as such.
Case A seems to have accidently changed the password of his account to something he typed by mistake (despite the system needing password verification), while having an e-mail address registered on the account which no longer works. As such, he lost access to his account and either thought or merely claimed that it had been stolen.
Case B does not appear to have any problem at all, seeing as how the e-mail address of the account he claimed to have had stolen from him is the same as the e-mail address of the account he is posting from on the forum and thus should be perfectly capable of using the password reset function.
Case C, finally, had been using the Union client which saves his password in plaintext, and subsequently shared this client with people who read his password and took his account. While this is at least an actual case of account theft, I find it hard to blame the thieves when they are given the password plainly. The account in question has now been permanently locked so that noone may use it.
I don't really intend to whine publically about my woes, but if I sometimes seem reluctant and bothered to deal with these kind of "customer service" issues, I hope this might give you some insight as to why.
