I read that as a semantic disagreement more than anything. He seems to say he wants the numeric values to be able to go as high as they like, but the effect of those crazy high values to be largely unimportant.

I'd say the word "godlike" implies untouchable powerful in effect rather than any numerical significance. I tend to agree with most people that having jolly green giants striding the land is not ideal.

Oh, and also, bye bye Flame, I hope you come back some time, people have already recommended the games I'd recommend, Minecraft, ATITD, UnrealWorld if you're going single player, and of course, Dwarf Fortress.

I said i don't agree with hardcaps. I do agree with softcapping shit at a much more reasonable level of investment.

Also, Battle for wesnoth. Excellent game, well developed and balanced in the default era. with both single and multiplayer ability. Teamwork and PvP scenarios. Entirely non-investment.

That's missing the point, tho. Flame's complaining about players that will kill others only because of "LOL HEADSHOT!!11".
It's like a society that consists of 10% antisocial, psychotic serial killers - it's only fun as long as you're either one of them or you're lucky and don't run into them too often.

Perhaps Jorb believes that by allowing long time players to become jolly green giants society will evolve a force to squash the psychopaths?

Interesting. The reasons Flame's leaving are the reasons I play this game in the first place.

We only value the things we lose. Without the threat of loss, that value is greatly diminished.

Flame wrote:Everything you do, you are SURE that someday your town will be destroyed by a randomic troll

Really? I'm not so sure actually. I am pretty sure that one day the house I've built in the real world will be torn down though and replaced with whatever the new technology there is at the time. I am sure I'm going to die at some point too.

It doesn't many everything I do is pointless.

Flame wrote:or also if you hide, you are SURE that they'll find you in few weeks, or if you'r lucky, we can say few months.

Well, it's been a few weeks for us and I guess "THEY" haven't found me yet. I've really only being playing the game a few months and in that time, I've had everything I ever did destroyed because someone decided to reset the map for no reason other than "because they wanted to". ;)

Some argue there is no reason behind any war and plenty of accidents are without rhyme nor reason. In fact, history shows plenty of people have ravaged the world or killed for no reason other than "because they wanted to". Why should this game be any different?

what doesn't exist in society and real life is a "Kid God Behind The Screen That Do Whathever He Want Knowing That He Don't Lose Anything".

In real life ther are Psicotyc peoples, yes, and his actions bring conseguence. If they kill, they'r wanted. If they'r found, they'll probably die because in real life, you can be a huge mad, but a shot can kill you easily.
Every player MUST be free to chose what he wanna do. Killer - farmer - Mad Man - warrior Etc Etc. I'll never say to avoid this.
But should be avoided this choose ---> [I'm a killer kid behind a screen. I don't play a game. I USE the game to have lolz on other players.]

Ther's no way to keep the madness in the context of the game? Actually ther's mostly Metagame. I call "no reason" die for metagame.

Probably most of the matters could be solved changing the battle system, the skill and stats value. I mean, if the game is ruled by stats, this situation can't change. Is a bug of lots of mmorpg.
What is important in battle? Yes. Strenght. A good armor, and on top of that: Ability. The time spent on exercise with a sword. And also if you'r a sword master, if you'r unluky you can die against a farmer.

A fight of skills and stats? Then this bug will be forever. Here in HH is evidence because is a game without rules, but the bug exist since the first rpg online.
Never saw so many free trolls, anyway.

To solve this problem, ther's need to change the meaning of gdr. Well...not a little change. Can't be a true balance until then, for this reason usually the devs choose to Moderate, instead to create a new type of game. Here ther's no moderation, so probably the right balance must go on the totally change of the game. Stay between this two roads lead to a wall, it seems.

One man cannot ravage the world himself just "because he wants to", he must have support, resources, etc. It's very complicated.

Clearly the solution would be to make having extreme stats have meaning.

If you have 90000 STR you should be able to punch people into craters and jump off the ground flying across the terran, and pick up log cabins by yourself.
Also, if you have 90000 PSYCHE you should be able to shoot laserbeams from your hands, and powerup.

90000 Agility shall allow you to zoom around dodging your opponents attacks, since you are clearly so fast that anyone below 90000 perception shouldn't even be able to see you.
