U don't really need a bot to have decent study. If you are semi active you can have decent straw dolls, tealeaves, feather dusters, enthroned, seer bones just by being casual. If you also like to wander around you can add some teddies and forgables and if you also go to mine here and there few of those metal ones. Ofc if you are hermit its harder, but still doable.
W8 - Hermitage
W7 - Emerald City
W6 - Gomorrah
W5 - Pandemonium
W4 - Angkor
W3 - Angkor

I did that back when I played actively, that's how I got to where I am. You guys get to where I am in 3 days. There is no way in hell hell I am ever supposed to catch up with that, especially with my boycot on botting and wandering playstyle.

If you don't like bots and custom clients this may not be the game for you. Depends if you want to play it to the best of your ability or just enjoy other aspects of the game.
You may have foiled the plans of BAD-EVIL this time, but there is no rest for the wicked.

I try to play this game the way I like it, and I try to fill a role that I enjoy and that no one has really ever tried before, that role being a wanderer, however shit like this makes me feel like I'm left in the dust. U hearin' what I'm preachin'?
I do use a custom client btw ;)

While that's definitely true of custom clients, I would still argue that bots aren't needed to keep up with meta game players. My biggest example of this would be Wyrmhold/Nine-dragons Emporium. 0 bots used, and still arguably, one of the most successful and richest villages of W6. Still kept up and were ahead of most of the quality racers. And yet there were really quite few villagers, only around 7ish villagers at any one time. And everyone still had the time to do what they enjoyed most about the game, be it combat, farming, exploring, meeting people or making trades.

Point being that while bots will always have the advantage of precise and punctual timing in terms of labour and farming and curio's. Those who say (not aimed at you, I haven't actually read the rest of this thread) you need them to keep up, or get ahead, or that every successful place uses them. Are just plain wrong.

Heaps of people have tried it before, I recall in W5 there was this dude (I forget the name, fallen-"something complicated") I think, and he used to just meander around the supergrid and a bit further just meeting anyone and everyone and just helping out with casual things, generally just being everyones friend.

It's a noble calling, I hope you're doing it right :)

In W4 and W5 there where even lots of Guesthouses (a Runestone telling so) - some with filled cups - i guess mostly build by guys who used to wander around themselves sometimes ...

i wonder if, with fast travel being nerfed/removed, road travel being added in an unspecified but important way and an attempt a a nicer social climate towards your neighbours (early game at least) We will start to see projects like this crop up again. Small hermit inn's along road systems, whether as a social hub/trade hub, Neutral ground for intervillage trading and even just a "safe" waypoint for anyone travelling with wagons etc.

would certainly be awesome

Oh hey, someone remembers the Fharlanghn lodges I used to build.

I really wish people hadn't started abusing house-building and blocked gates in those worlds. Being restricted to one house every twenty-four hours made it infeasible to carry on with that sort of thing.

Then again, early in this world, my habit of doing that actually saved me from a very friendly Russian that spoke English. I was in the middle of building a boat when he arrived, and introduced myself in the hopes that the Necromancer's Cloak he wore wasn't a sign that I was about to get chased for half a supergrid. He recognized my name and the houses, and apparently ran into one to evade a bear that he'd accidentally angered when he first started playing.

He even gave me a fox pelt, which I kept until I could find someone to turn it into a hat for me to wear.

Thanks for reminding me of this. It's been a while since I did this, and it would be fun to start again.
