The fighting pit should be brickwalled in (pretty sure it's the idea) with outside archers aiming at you in case you do something bad, and spectators sitting right outside the brickwalled area.

If he pulls out a ranger's bow or something that can hit people outside and aims towards any of them he can be shot to death, simple enough.

no, not sparring. fight to KO. it's not that hard to not kill someone after you KO them.

Whoops. Didn't read carefully.

I'd personally say that the archers should get a small brickwalled area (where even outsiders can't access them) with a cr inside the archer area for them to teleport around in, if need be.

That way no one can kill the archers so they can kill contestants. ;)

or if someone's using moves on a body they can
take him down easy enough, maybe gated off
sections for archers so you can't engage them
so you can kill a contestant before they can
travel.

Would I pay to watch?

Only if it's team battles or to the death. 1v1 sparring is boring as shit.

Would I fight in the arena?

Once I get my stats up, I sure as hell would.

Would be cool to have a betting booth, too, but it would have to run on a single currency that's not worthless or terribly hard to get for newer players. Maybe silk.
The people who are betting could go up to the booth, give their HS to the broker, say how much they're betting and on who, the broker would jot that info down in notepad or something, then after the match they would be given their winnings or would pay their losses. If they skipped out on payments, they could be banned from the Arena, or killed.

It would also be cool to have UA fights against multiple bears, but I have no idea how you might get them in the arena. Maybe block the entrance off with rocks or something, and then lure them in and teleport out after they break combat, and have someone re-close the entrance.
I like my coffee like I like my bunnies. On my feet.
Don't ask.

I'd pay to watch! :D
I wouldn't participate though, what with being low leveled and all.

have you considered a free for all arena battle?
With like 30 people in the arena and the last one standing wins.
Mankind can never completely erase the sadness, because they are all fundamentally alone. but if you interact with others , you can forget the sadness for a while. and that moment is what makes life worth living.

Just make an arena walls made of statues and ask Jorb spawn several bears inside.
let's resurrect arena traditions of ancient Rome.
