It's the end of an era... and the beginning of a new one! Can't wait to see what JLo can do with an actual budget and professional support!

I just think they could've done more experiments with the core mechanics more before going pro, the publishers might restrict their creative freedom now :(

Yes unless they are develop two games at once, which they won't. I guess this is the "sell out" stage of indie fame if you would even call it fame. I r sad now ..

Salem, a new free to play MMO created by H&H devs seatribe?

Postby blazsword » Fri Jan 21, 2011 1:11 am

Salem, a new free to play MMO being created by Haven and Hearth developers Seatribe, has been announced by Paradox Interactive at the Paradox Convention in New York today.

Salem, a new free-to-play title, has been announced by Paradox Interactive.

The MMORPG is set in a mythical version of New England, and see players stepping off a boat in Boston and then having to fend for themselves in the ‘New World’.

The game puts emphasis on a player-driven world that promotes crafting skills. Even more interesting, when your character dies he’s gone forever, leaving all your creations to be pillaged by other players. Harsh. Video explaining it all after the jump.

Whilst only in the early stages of development, Salem is due for a 2011 release.

Here’s Game Designer/Creative Director Bjorn Johannessen talking more about this exciting MMO. He doesn’t die in the video thankfully.

I wonder what going to happen with Haven&Hearth now. Also would been nice if Jorb&Loftar could explain if something is going on that we don't know about? But guys what do you think about this?
Thank you SacreDoom for the awesome profile picture you made!

I hope Salem doesn't turn out to be some pussy-ass sell out game because Paradox is involved. Don't know much about the company but that probably means they aren't anything special. Why'd you chose to go with Paradox, I'd have rather you went with Microsoft...

Actually, Paradox tends to publish a bit more niche games, so I'm hoping it won't be dumbed down much.

Personally I doubt microsoft would have any interest in a game like this. Going with a smaller company like Paradox is for sure the right choice. They're more likely to have creative control over the content of the game, but still gain the resources and manpower that come with it.

Well if it starts to fail then paradox will make them add I dunno maybe an item shop and take out perm death. Or maybe it will start with an item shop, it has to get money somehow. It's a true shame but we can only hope they are not being this stupid as we know nothing at all yet really. All I want to know is there even a point to log in to haven and hearth anymore ?
