How to deal with the guy:
-wait in the bathroom upstairs and smash his head with an axe(shack in the park) when he turns his back on you
-get a shotgun (second house on the right), get out of the other door when he is waiting and shoot him
-maybe barricades? (crafting: hammer, boards and nails)

My experiences with him were different. Sometimes he just took of the barricades and shot me without a word (maybe a bug). Later he always waited at the door and did nothing.
One time a horde of zombies came and he shot them all - attracting double the amount of zombies that finally knocked my door down and killed me

You can play around a bit, but it's not really much of a game atm. But it will be :)

You're not supposed to survive the guy with the shotgun (for now).
The way I beat him was kind of a bug I've been meaning to send in.

Barricade the front door after you get back from the other house.
When the radio is play, after you turn on and off the stove, go up stairs and stair out the bathroom window make sure you have clear view of your front door.
When you see the guy he's start the hello neighbor dialog simply pull out your hammer and he'll start shooting at you. Though he can't because you are on a different story.
He does run out of ammo so after he stops shooting, I haven't tested how long, just open the front door and kill him with the hammer. He does a have a bat.
Ta-dah.

Damn Bobby Collins, came to my house, shot 3 zombies.. left the door open and came up to my wife, i killed him but there was like 10 zombies around the house, i runned to the front door and closed it, after that i killed the zombies, went to bed and when i woke up i couldn't hear anything else than massacre of zombie voices... there i was, aiming at the front door and waiting the right time to open it.. after a couple minutes i opened the door and immediately shot at the zombies, gladly they died all at once since they were in the bullet range of the shotgun, after that i repaired the door and barricaded myself in again but then suddenly i heard a cracking noise.. i looked at the kitchen and saw that the door was braken down, i went to the kitchen and saw a horde of the zombies inside there eating my canned soup and steak.. that's how my story ended :3

Equip the hammer (in one of those two bubbles in the upper left corner) and right click wood on what you want to barricade (ie: window). You require hammer, wood and nails to barricade.

You can also build free standing barricades which is how I lived my longest of 31 days 16 hours. I gathered food in my house upstairs and walled off the stairway and slept on my wife's corpse.

Edit: You are crafting the free standing barricades, kLauE. To just board up a window just equip a hammer and right click a board on it.
