IRC doesn't get trolled since it is moderated opposed to the global chat. I really don't know why you have to keep argueing for it so hard. IRC is just so much more user friendly too.

Personally I wasn't interested in arguing at first I just wanted to make a post saying my thoughts on the subject, but this thread as with many has gotten flamed since of the simple mention of global chat. If we could please just let this argument die down and let those whom it concerns speak about their experiences and joys within global chat?

Here's my experience: some troll thought they'd be funny and spam bot the channel. My client crashes. Therefore: I quit using global. Maybe if we get mods that can boot tards out of the channel, then it'll be good. Until then, sorry, I have no sympathy.

edit: fyi, that was in w5.
second edit: probably would have thought it was a good practical joke except my system doesn't load HnH very fast, so when I play, I'm going to do what is necessary to keep it running.

Alright, no offense intended at all, but to me your post sounded like "I tried it one time and didn't like it, therefore it's stupid."

I understand that you would be really against something that crashes your game client, because I sure as hell would be too.

But I have spent countless hours in global chat (both participating and lurking) in w4, w5, and w6, and I have never ever experienced a crash because of spamming. I have been there in the middle of some spam storms of epic proportions, and whenever someone started spamming, i pressed ctrl and then c.

No matter what you say about chat spamming, it will never be a valid reason to me for removing global chat. It has also been said by a couple mods and long-time players that this is not the reason it was removed either. And as I and others have suggested multiple times, even if this was a huge problem and even if this was the primary reason for global being removed, a simple message rate limiter (which is something that should really be implemented in any chat system) would have completely 100% solved the spamming problem.

Understood. YOU in particular for this reason, should not use global chat. Your problem is solved.

I'm just saying that you have a couple perfectly valid reasons for not liking global chat, but no reasons for removing it for all players.

Where ever in my post say how often I used global chat? Read between the posts much? (Cause I can't call it reading between the lines because, well, I didn't even try to imply how often I may or may not have tried to use it.)

I understand that you would be really against something that crashes your game client, because I sure as hell would be too.

Could be it was causing problems on the server too? loftar is famously closed-lipped on these sorts of things because of whatever reason. It's a game dev thing, I think, as devs don't want hackers figuring out what's actually inside the black box.

As would I. I just got tired of it eventually turning into 90% trolling and spamming somewhere in the middle of w5.

So I'm here just trying to share one experience with global chat after a long discussion of why it's good or bad and you have to pick my statements all to pieces? Let's put it this way:

1) You have no rights here. You have privileges. If you don't like what you see, pack your shit up and leave.

2) Global chat was implemented at some point in w3. I can't recall when because nobody ever used it. Everyone used IRC if they wanted to communicate publicly. It wasn't until Ender's client because the popular one that anyone even started using it. Heck, a large portion of the player base thought that Ender was the one that developed it, except that theory gets thrown out the window when you realize it had to bounce off the server.

3) There are no GMs in game, why should they put mods in. If you don't like the way people act, it's the player's responsibility to deal with it. Only in a very few rare exceptions have either Jorb or loftar stepped in to resolve situations because players have the ability to deal with assholes (namely beat them down in game until the quit or leave the area). Having a global chat just gives them a global audience.

From what I've read here, you might be one of the trolls making other's gaming experience less. At least, I can conclude that by using the logic you just used for my post.

Piss off and screw your whiny bitching.
