when the last game i was playing announced a server shutdown, i went looking for a new game everywhere with a few friends.
one minor gaming board and one 2chan thread titled something like "for those who arent satisfied w/ recent MMOs" had posts made by Yolan（大輔）, both led me to this thread. some jerk was teasing his japanese (very good japanese but didnt sound native enough for those boards) and i felt sorry, which made me decide to try this out. i was only planning to play temporally till yolan finds more people around his age, but as i play along, i got really addicted owing a lot to niltrias and bn members help and friendship toward our first noob japanese village.

another guy who also came by yolan's post started a new 2ch thread for haven with me to call in more japanese players as yolan wished (but yolan went inactive). some of those started even more threads in 2ch boards everywhere and they called in more. some started streaming on peercast and nico-nico, whatsoever, and they called in more too.

i still cherish those starting months with daily crash with longer downtime than uptime with lags, even though i exploded before the w3 end with the whole village business and went hermitting.

I'm active in one of Slovenian gaming forums (http://www.spilkamra.net) where most of people were playing sport games with various online arcades and browser games being present all the times, so eventually one stumbled uppon HnH and 5-6 of us followed. This was in about mid w3, and our first settlement was made about 200 steps south of AD. I didn't know its perm-a-death or anything, we didn't read forums, just played it and get to know game on our own, until some dumbass started stealing leather, then I went to kill him with only rage and 3 ua = 3dmg punches ftw for 2 hours, and palisaded my HF in like 6x6 space. Ofc next day I found no char on my acc

I miss times when we didn't have metals, and our first tin bar we got from a friend was like gold.

Hm i also miss that times. How you&ostri (i forgot his H&H name) worked and learned things and we (other members) fucked around like noobs we were.
And how we searched caves.

Lurking on 4chan's /b/ when I saw an HnH thread, the first image was a guy in a swamp covered in leeches. I decided to lurk more, after a while people were posting screenshots of their camp. Instead of joining them i became a hermit. A few days later I see a thread here on the forums where a bunch of russians raided them

So far it's looking like real life word of mouth and forum word of mouth. I imagine hitting up some of the bigger gaming sites forums with maybe a small review or something like that would bring in tons of people. IGN, Rockpapershotgun, etc etc etc. probably wait and see if Loftar can get a hold of the lag though.

I think this is a very good idea, Id love to see some new players joining the game.

Well, I joined a long time ago with some friends of mine, Can't recall which world was it but we just joined for a week and left, I found out the game by some random guy speaking about it on the bus with his friend, When the guy said "Dude we killed a bear yesterday..." I just had to butt in and ask what he is speaking of...And thus i joined.

Advertising would be more effective if it weren't for the current lag. If the lag was ever dealt with, I'm sure many more people would stay.

I tried to make my clan join this game... Global clan of 50 or something people... Since i started an account as a lone player it was fun when i found an abandoned village, Pretty large, So i asked them to join, They did, After 5 minutes of lag, They all quit...
They suggested we wait for Salem and join that because it's basically the same and without lag...

I see the lag... it's actually "bearable" so far...

Found it looking for games with permadeath and persistance, as other types of games don't feel like any sense of accomplishment is really possible. (you lost 653 times but got lucky on the 654th? Well... then he's dead and you deserve to move on! Lame)

Wasn't always like this, was actually pretty smooth before a failed OS upgrade.
