Or treat flattening like plowing land by hand? One full stamina bar = flat tile. Or give us a plow or something to attach to horses/cows that work like wagons do.

More words from loftar. No breaking news or anything though. Imminent Salem update, random stuff about Haven & Hearth. Excerpts below:

#haven2 wrote:(15:56:45) <loftar> I sure hope so, Urist. I think the changes improve the game a lot.
(15:57:14) <loftar> Not only in the current state of the game, either, but they also make it more meaningful to add new stuff in the future.
(15:57:42) <loftar> I think one of the primary reasons why it was starting to feel meaningless to add new stuff to Salem was because the previous systems made new content kind of meaningless.
(15:57:50) <loftar> Especially the gobbling system, which is now fixed.
(16:00:47) <Urist> does it mean update is coming very soon?
(16:01:04) <loftar> They aren't necessarily connected, but I sure hope we'll be able to release the update soon enough. :)
(16:01:17) <loftar> I'm still aiming for the end of the month, but we'll see.
(16:01:22) <loftar> There are a few loose ends.
-
(16:13:48) <loftar> We don't *plan* to make a new Haven world before Hafen, for sure.
-
(17:11:31) <loftar> I wouldn't mind dragons and I know Jorb wants them, but it would be completely meaningless to add them as "just another creature".
(17:11:40) <loftar> I'd hate to see people "grinding dragons".

Are you hinting? loftar did say you wanted it. I don't see how dragons fit into the lore either. They seem medieval European, not sure where it originated though. It seems more eastern but i certainly could be wrong. I'll need to do more research. They seem the default choice for a lot of games. I don't know if it would be a good idea. However slaying a dragon could make a dhelm more badass if you had to have killed one.

You are correct in a lot of depictions of dragons being Eastern in origin. An early example that comes off the top of my head are the depictions of Satan in the Bible.

Beowulf wrote:Þá wæs þéodsceaða þriddan síðe
frécne fýrdraca faéhða gemyndig·
raésde on ðone rófan þá him rúm ágeald
hát ond heaðogrim heals ealne ymbeféng
biteran bánum· hé geblódegod wearð
sáwuldríore· swát ýðum wéoll.

Though in all honesty, because of the biblical examples and its mesh with Germanic folklore, the European dragons, like the one I quote above, they fit in the lore perfectly. (It's old English, so I don't need a translation right?)

Also Nidhogg at the base of the World Tree, though that wyrm is more of an afterlife character. The one in the quote deals intimately with the mortals of the time. ;)

Fine, have your translation, but it'll spoil it for you. ;)

Beowulf wrote:Then the scourge of people a third time,
the fierce fire-drake enmity in mind,
rushed at the brave man, when he was yielded space,
hot and battle-fierce, (Beowulf's) whole neck he clamped
between sharp fangs; he was drenched
in life-blood; gore gushed in waves.

Beowulf is Medieval but existed earlier in oral tradition Vaku tells me. I know the Norse vikings believed in dragons(from their ships). My best guess is that it was the result of Norse contact with Arabs(Google ulfbert). The Norse also had contact with the English when they ruled most of England and perhaps the origin of the beowulf story. I don't see where the Germans fit in is all. My guess is dragons originated in Asia perhaps modern day China. Mostly vaguely from news years celebrations, statues and art. I'm no expert though.

Dragons are a general theme in most indo-european myth. Compare, for example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slavic_dragon or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_d ... nic_Europe

They're all Germanic. English comes from the root influence of the Angles, Saxons, Jutes, and Frisians. Angle-Saxon is used interchangeably with "old English."

Beowulf was written down some time before the 11th century, before the Norman invasion, where you get your French influence on English. So, Beowulf still fits pretty squarely with the Germans.

Is there a distinction between Gothic and Slavic mythology?
You've certainly peaked my interest.

Rule of thumb: If there's another name for it, there's a distinction.

Also, note the striking resemblance ;)
