When you play the game for few years and repeat each world from begining till its end, or till you decide you have enough of it or till it resets, you simply run out of ideas eventually since the game chores are too monotone, so either you stop playing or find yourself things to do that keep you going. Some people raid and kill, some people extend their farms and drown in harvesting, some try something new to test things out and xcom was always good in that. The part that the thing crashed server was for sure not intentional and I can personally try to cover whatever loses people have to help them out. Those that know X know that last thing he would ever do is to hurt an ant.

Just caught up on all of this - the cave in vid was hilarious, all that work though, gone in the blink of an eye - would have looked cool in slow motion. :)

This is so true - I end up just expanding to a ridiculous size for a hermit, I do it every world even though I start each one saying I'm going to stay small - every time I expand it then means more brick walls, urgh, but I still keep doing it, lol, it's like some sort of weird addiction but it does keep me playing, there is always a brick wall to finish -

Xcom always finds the most interesting, and amazing at times, projects and experiments and can therefore be forgiven for accidentally crashing the server, imo, (not sure this was one of them mind, - but was definately amusing) there are plenty of times his testing has just led to insight and knowledge beneficial for the rest of us - and anyway, with Ramones lovely offer, no-one has to lose out.

No-one deserves a dev cape either though Jordan - :P

I know, right? :geek:

+1 to you guys for coming up with these awesome experiments. I always love science that results in dwarfish death

If you guys aren't reporting this crap to loftar yet before trying it, you might think about doing that in the future. Have we not learned that mass server data generation causes issues by now?

Guess I'll chime in here, since the server is currently down again anyway and I might as well join in

Lost due to build sites loaded in a new area:

10 bars of steel, 15 steel nuggets, 6 bars each of wrought and bronze for gates and crossroad posts

Lost due to discovering items on a trade table (or equipping and shift-clicking back into inventory) for a new LS for that area:

q147 b12
q137 bronze sword
q10 pneck
q103 pair of RoB rings
q21 pearl
q190 Wondrous woodshaving
Crap q Dark heart
118 pickaxe, 120 stone axe, 120 metal saw, other q doesn't matter items like shovel, sledge, scythe, etc
Crap q soldier sword
One of each type of roasted and unroasted meat, including troll
One of each non-rare curio & foragable
One nugget and bar of each metal, including gold and silver
Each crop in various stages/discoverable states
Developed skull
Silk cloth, silk napkin, leather, hard leather, you name it, I probably lost one with this rollback. Made a run discovering stuff by equip/unequip through cupboards, then threw 4 LC worth of discoverables on the table and popped them while wearing LP boosters.

I had JUST done this within an hour of the crash, along with planting a new set of apple & yew trees, lost 8 treepots - 4x 108, 2x 117, 2x 118. Oddly enough tho, the trees were still there and the LP I got on the new LS stayed, he was LS when I logged back in and had all of his LP for the claim. Everything I had touched was gone tho. Somehow I ended up with a pack full of free crap quality carrots that I had farmed hours before, but that was it. Most of the stuff I used on the table was crap q I had collected, but some of them were the only ones I had of that particular item or the lowest q, since I don't stockpile multiples of many things, especially the ones that are more difficult to obtain. Never planned on making a crappier b12 just for discovery...

Now this doesn't mean that I think it was any player's fault, but I understand fully why people got pissed that they lost things with the roll back. I'm pretty pissed off myself, especially the timing of it and the fact that if my vidol dried an hour earlier or later i wouldn't have lost any of it except for the tree pots. If I remember right I made cupboards upon cupboards of charcoal for those tree pots. I made like a dozen LCs of pumpkin pie for that b12. Was a while ago obviously bc of the quality of it, but still. Makes you feel like the shit you did, the time you spent working on it was for nothing. It's all for nothing anyways since the world will end up reset and after all, it's just a video game, but I willingly wasted my time to do the necessary things to get those items just to be ass-raped by a broken game. And good for the community that there are prominent players offering to replace things, cause I KNOW the dev team won't be replacing any of the things lost by their players because of a flaw in the game. Although the community shouldn't have to step up as a replacement program. No bugs or exploits were used by the players. Granted, maybe not the smartest thing to cause a billion cave ins to drop in an instant on an already unstable server, but if they can't find a way to make the game handle a massive influx like that then they could at least fix the roll back system to ACTUALLY PUT YOUR SHIT BACK WHERE IT WAS.

I will tell you this, when "Hafen" hits there is NO WAY IN HELLLLL that I'll be sending any real-life money for an account that you can't access 17 times a day because the servers are down. And I won't send money for a "special sword" like in Salem when things like roll backs happen that might completely remove them and the devs don't know where they went or even have a record of you having them in the first place. Not meaning to be a dick, but that's the purpose of alpha/beta, right? Feedbacks from the community... Things that will become a deal-breaker once money is involved. Things that will keep people playing or cause them to quit playing.

After all, I should be getting more sleep than I do now anyway

Its also the purpose of an alpha to do testing, find bugs and report them.

Thats what those guys did.

Maybe next time they should announce such things on forums so ppl dont do stuff like you , just 1 hour before the rollback.

Also a post from an alpha tester would be more like " I lost stuff due to server rollback - pls fix it for next time" and not like " I lost this and this and this and now im insanely mad."

Edit: Anyway, I can understand your anger!

Xcom never intends to cause harm. But his curiousity does get the better of him sometimes. Id be happy if he stuck tot he harmless ones more often. :)

No more bee hives experiments or mazes Xcom? :D
