You can't. Easiest way to tell is to either find a border (place on the map where you can't go any further) or just find an existing town that is already on the map.

GUYS...

i just found a town symbol on the map.. but all it was was a signpost that said was
"south road to constantinople
weariness:257%"

anything guys? i plan on going to constantinople.. but from that i dont know what to think..

You're south of constantinopole I think. You found a connecting village but they will have to go now with the new authority stuff.
