I might have to break down and do that. The crafting thing has me stumped. (Never could quite get the hang of it in Minecraft, either.)

The graphics are terrible, and don't give me any of that "voxel" shit, the graphics really are bad
Why not just play Minecraft, DayZ, Rust, or any other from the 3000 zombie open world survivals?

Maybe it looks like shit but the dev has been pushing out meaningful updates almost every day. And it's f2p, it's hard to hate on free to play games because if you don't like it - you haven't invested shit in it.

The game was actually quite fun. Spent 3 hours building a ship with a friend, then some people came and joined in, but they were asses so we shot them and spent the rest of the day sniping them back and forth from the boat.

The reason why Unturned has such shit grafix is because it was initially a player made mod for the game Roblox, which is made for children. The gameplay is laughable to say the least, where starting out you can just walk just close enough to a zombie and punch him then back away before he can do anything about it then rinse and repeat.
Multiplayer needs some definite work, almost all of the servers set up by somebody has immense lag issues and there's no dedicated server browser and you better hope you find an open slot on a 5 or 10 player server as soon as a thread about one is posted or you aren't getting a slot.
