now why in the world would someone do this without offering a worthy replacement
your disagreeing with how #haven is run doesnt make it less 'public' or somehow mandate its removal
Im not really sure what you are arguing about? are you saying because of the fact there is no replacement for a public server, it mandates the moderators on that public server to behave however they like even if its good or bad?

Thats just silly.
After 15 years of using IRC, also having been a moderator myself in the past i think i am fully capable of stating some of the commonley known unwritten rules that defines a public server.
I mearley stated common sens in my full post and stated the risk of what will happen in the future if it actually starts to get to much out of line. i am not stating that the server is or is not even in that state yet tho, i wouldnt really know exaktley in what state it is atm since i have not been on it for a few weeks. Personally i have never had any problems with it, never ben banned or had any problems with any moderators on it, nor do i want to se it reach that state. wich is one of the reasons why i made that post in the first place.
More complaints posts then i have ever seen about the state of the IRC have been seen on the forums latley.
Personally when i read this one i thaught it was a bit silly to perm ban becouse of a name at the same time as i thaught it was silly to refuse to change it when a moderator ask you to. Wich finally made me type my post. They where both beeing silly in my mind, but that is my own view.
However maybe i should have said that the public also have their own responsebility to behave on a publik server and obey under its rules, harassing the public or disrespecting the moderators is way out of line aswell, it goes both ways. Any moderators should always be treated with respect, but any kind of moderator should also show good example so that they do not loose that respect. common sens basically. I mean Instead of mounthing back to a moderator you feel is treating you bad to the point you get a ban is really not using your common sense, common sense if you feel misstreated is to talk to a senior moderator about your complaints/Problems with this particular moderator and let them deal with it for example.
hmm... how about a simple sollution to prevent small conflicts like this, might be to make a small list of your basic common rules and your special rules for the server so that the public knows exaktley what is expekted of them and what happens if they dont obey under them. example: " rule one- nicknames should be kept simple, and easily readable" if you are asked to change your name by a moderator change it or risk a kick/ban". Or whatever rules you intend to have on the server. even if i personally would think this example rule was a bit silly, i would still obey it and respect it if i knew it was there and applyed to everyone. and so would probably the original OP of this thread have done if he knew about it. it would probably make the moderators job a lot easier aswell. what do you guys think about something like that?
