However, you have a point. Nevertheless, the devs are giving us new toys to test, and I kind of doubt they want those toys to stay idle for a while while everyone is busy with the early game. Then again, maybe they subscribe to the philosophy of Hidden Fun Stuff.

As for the "fresh start is fresh fun", I refer back to my point about us being testers. The devs primary "responsibility" at this point is not to provide us fun, it's to develop their game. If they can get data "quicker, faster, better" by not resetting the characters, then by all means don't. Sure, we derive fun as a fringe benefit, and it's in their interest to provide us some fun as an incentive, but the idea they should only cater to the players at this point is naive.

@Mikkanen: I think you messed up your quote code.

Save up 1.5m LP.
Place claim.
Wait an hour, declaim press buy.
Have a friend expand a claim over the map edge.
Rollback, add the new LP into your claim and repeat
Hello 30mil LP
I am the bugchar.

I just reeeeally hope that this doesn't end up happening in the middle of my workday. Or while I'm asleep. So, that gives 'em a 4-hour window... that starts at two or three o'clock in the morning for them.
Surprise.

I believe jorb has stated that there will be a map of the 'known world' (my words, not his) of the area immediately surrounding the main spawn point. A map like we've been having, however, is supposed to go the way of the dodo with the reset, in part because it'll be 'ever expanding' - procedurally generated as users push the boundaries, instead of having an arbitrary wall you can't pass at the edge as it is now.

Could be mistaken on any or all counts given I'm typing this in a very drowsy state.

I myself was once 100% against any kind of character reset, but now... well, I dont mind a character reset if it comes rarely, say every 4-6 months. But as has been pointed out, do we really need a character reset now? Item reset, sure, to stop the alts and implement item quality, but why character reset too? Nothing new is being implemented in characters AFAIK for now.

Also, one of my main concerns in the new map is the first rush. I agree with the other people who brought this up, we need some kind of temporary protection or whatnot so that we dont get superchar griefers slaughtering anyone commming out of the spawn point.

I am by no means a God char, but I am fairly high level. I would guess upper-mid. Anyway, I would totally support a character reset that coincided with ancestor worship. Not that my opinion matters greatly, but I think if it is to be done, that would be the time to do it.

for the purpouse of beta-testing it would suit the game best to have characters of all kinds of different 'levels' Thus a char reset shouldn't be done unless its needed for a complete change to how characters work, (a char reset will be needed sooner or later.)

Ancestral worship or a complete reworking of the skilltree/stat system would be the only reasons I see for a char reset.

(I'm not that strong I'd consider myself about a midlevel char and wouldnt mind starting over, however I dont think it would help the game if we resetted the chars just because it would be "Fair") (note that fair is in qoutes)

I'm not actually concerned about superchar griefing; most superchars have far too much to lose to take up griefing now - and if they'd been griefers all along, they'd be dead, probably repeatedly. My concern is with the not-quite-newbs, particularly the ones who alternate between aggressively demanding equality (full character wipe) and player killing/thieving/threatening. I can easily imagine a mob of characters of this type hanging out at the new ROB attempting to implement a full character wipe of everyone else.
