In fact, the only ban set is one of voodoodogs hostmask, but since he keeps ban evading (changing his IP's wether he does it conciously or not) it's not effective.

We're discussing moderation. moderation is the process of adding rules. The only rule I would like to see is that you don't go posting personal insults at people. That's my opinion.
What's the matter with personal insults? Well, they are insults... They're words crafted to try and hurt people's feelings... Their point is to offend people... They are not nice... Do I really have to go into that?
I don't give a crap about other childishness / time wasting / whatever else. Spam it up, fun is fun.

Good on you, you're one of jackards friends and he isn't a douche to you, how is that supposed to have any bearing on my opinion of him?
I don't think he's a worthless individual, I don't think he's unintelligent either. I do think he's aggressive, enjoys insulting and flaming people, and in general adds a lot more hate and negativity than he does benefit.
Specifically I am annoyed him because he trolled the crap out of me and I found ignoring him was VASTLY better for all concerned than reading his posts and replying to him, which was just filling up threads with garbage that no-one wanted to read.

You're making an argument that doesn't apply.

Maybe... if so I'm wrong... Maybe we're having a discussion that involves what people think the deal should be with moderation, and I'm expressing my opinion...

And now you're saying, "Since you called me names, the rest of your argument is invalid and I'm clearly right and you should be banned for being mean to me, on a forum that doesn't have conduct rules. The moderators suck and are clearly biased towards goons, you guys all suck, let me whine about my persecution complex here."

well, that's not what I'm saying... Maybe that's what you're hearing, or what you want me to be saying so I can be pretty clearly wrong for you to launch into a lot more insults.

Hey you fucking moron, there ARE no behavior moderators on the public IRC. There are no moderators to be biased for goons. If anything, all they really do is make sure no one comes and makes the place unreadable by spamming it to shit.

So why was it important for jackard to note that he was a mod for the irc channel as evidence for his suitability to mod web forums?

ps: calling someone names isn't a valid argument, and is not meant to be a valid argument -- I EXPLAINED why you were wrong, AND ALSO called you names. My explanation is a valid argument. My calling you names is because I feel like it, and because you can. I am, in fact, capable of doing two things in one post.

I didn't say you were wrong, I didn't venture an opinion on your valid argument, don't care about it so I ignored it. I ventured an opinion on your insult because it seemed more relevant to moderating and what I think mods should care about in this forum.

Just chill out dude

I'm not so sure about that -- mainly because it is unclear what, more exactly, constitutes an "insult" and what separates it from, say, an "admonition", "constructive critique" or simply the expression of an opinion.

For instance, which of the four would you use to classify my own previous response to VoodooDog in this thread? I'm not too sure myself. To be more extreme, if A calls B a "worthless human being", that could be more obviously said to be an insult, but then again, it might just be A voicing his honest opinion of B (and in fact, that is not even mutually exclusive of being an insult). Where would you draw the line of where "insulting" starts, and why?

I, too, think many people on the boards use a rather poor style in their posts (to be kind) -- VoodooDog being one of them -- but I cannot really think of a good reason to go around exerting power to moderate them. I can, however -- following the same rules and abilities of all the others on the board -- respond with, well, my honest opinion of them (which I did previously in this thread), and maybe, if I feel kind, try and provide a bit of constructive critique. I think that would be the natural way to go about these things. Of course, don't let that hinder further discussion; if there is some kind of more or less "objective" ruleset that can rationally be applied to a board of this kind, I would be interested to hear it. I just can't think of any such rules myself; and what I don't want to do is to force my subjective rules of style onto others, just like I wouldn't want to be the receiver of any such.

In my honest opinion, I don't think the community is even large enough for one, maybe two moderators or admins. Compared to a lot of other forums this one isn't very active.

On the original topic, Voodoo Dog, you've earned yourself a bad reputation over a long period of time.

If you want people to stop commenting on your English, improve it.

Why are you guys giving any attention to theTrav? He's shown himself to be a blatant and obvious troll in the past, just on the other side of the fence.

seriously, his accusation this time is based on hearsay? pathetic, i dont even need to defend against it

Just because you have a right to insult doesn't mean other people have to like it when you exercise that right. Whether they like it or not may not matter to you, but it does matter to them and influences what they think of you and how they respond to you. Respect, courtesy, whatever you wish to call it, how much you do or do not display it affects the court of public opinion, the judgements of which you usually have to live with.

jackard and delamore are homosexual watermelons and have a hard on for voodoo.

stop being obtuse loftar, an insult is an insult. you don't need to act like it's the philosophical question of the century. you speak as though every forum that has successful mods must be performing miracles. this place is a shit hole and you know it.

This forum is far better than the majority of forums with moderation, for example Game FAQs.

PvP games will always have personal insults, especially when the risks are so high. It's stupid to expect there not to be.
