Ah, so the forum is set to the time in Sweden by default. Well damn...I don't know what time he is normally found awake but I have to say that the prospects of him being online soon seem low...unless, of course, he is on at odd times.

If Loftar or Jorb want to go ahead and give me their phone numbers, I can give them a call when it goes down. I won't even call collect. An alternative would be to write a simple program that checks the server program's status on the machine and automatically puts it back up if it's not running. That is assuming it's not the actual machine that is responsible for the downtime.

I don't think they want people calling them in the AM while they're asleep, which is when the server is down most as I see it.

Well, it's very possible that, in the unfortunate case of a downtime, they do not WANT it to automatically start back up without first accessing the logs and working to determine the reason for the crash. Automated starts after crashes are always risky because it gives players that might understand the reasons behind the crash the upper hand in terms of item duplication and general exploitation and abuse. It's almost always better to take a look at what you've got before throwing it back out there again.

If loftar would go for virtualisation and accept massive hardware donations, he could run the server on a VM, detect crashes, and on crash, snapshot the VM state, offload it to disk, then start up the server again.

He could then load the VM later on a different computer to debug it.

You'd get better uptime but more rollbacks

Actually, it's one hour off. (I'm guessing summer time is to blame)

Or they could pass on some of the responsibility to me, since I'm up at slightly different hours than them. :P (At least from Loftar, not sure about Jorb; from what I know he doesn't live strictly by a 24h day rhythm)
Doing that, we'd cover at least 22 hours of the day.
But it's their call; I've offered my help long ago, but they've never asked me, even at times like this when Loftar is out of town and can't debug the crashes.

Is there any way we could maybe get a Dev post at least acknowledging that the server was down for a long ass time and we had yet another rollback? Do you guys know what's causing the crashes? Is anything being done? Should we just stop playing until we get some confirmation that Loftar is back in town?

As far as I know, jorb simply resets the server with the last usable save, loftar is the one who knows how to salvage the data <.<

That's why there's been more rollbacks this week, loftar was out of town.

Kaka just wants to take over and give everyone green hair D=
