I've been playing H&H for just a couple days - enough to learn the basics, get a few thousand LPs down, make a lean-to, etc. And I must say that I'm hooked - this thing is addicting. Trying to get some friends online to play with me, which would be great!

However, today I was murdered - shot dead by an arrow. No explanation, no conversation, no nothing. Obviously there was no way for my to defend myself - even if I had had time to say anything.

I find it extremely discouraging that brand-new players can be murdered like this. Getting 5000 LPs may not be much to all of you, but when they're the only LPs you've ever earned, they sure as hell are.
It's unfortunate that there isn't some sort of safeguard for players who haven't gotten (even close to) established yet.

Here's hoping my next character's experience will be better.

Ah, you remind me so much of myself when I was a newbie and playing H&H for the first time. I too was murdered. I still remember what they said, "meh im quitting anyways" and I still remember their name. Bitch.

You will always remember this moment in your Hearthling's life but you will come out stronger because of it.

I'm very curious as to how much your H&H character is an extension of the actual player him/her self, and how well your in game behavior mirrors you real life character.

I've had quite a few of my characters murdered in completely up-provoked attacks. It's one thing to be killed by a bear or a boar that is programmed to attack on sight, but it's a hard lesson to learn that the player that killed you was an actual human being, from some other country, that made a conscious decision to murder someone who posed no threat whatsoever.

I often think, "wow, only a real a-hole would knock out and murder an innocent defenseless noob". Then I wonder "I bet this person is just as cruel and mean spirited in real life".

This game is very interesting in the way it brings out peoples more barbaric behavior. Sad to say, I would not like to meet a lot of the players here in real life. :o

And before you all lose your top hats, yes, I know it's all part of the game. ;)

I don't really think Raiders ingame are all assholes in reality...some may be, but just as much as some of the "good" people.

Not always true, you can be a weak skinny guy with no friends in real life, but in a game you can be the meanest baddest guy known, why? Cause they can. I have played many MMOs and met those ppl irl, and the person behind the screen isnt always the person you make them out to be.

Hmm... I think murdering defenseless noobs and raiding for supplies are different personality traits regardless.

I wasn't referring to physical appearance, obviously people look different IRL than their in game characters. Orcs and Turen don't actually play World of Warcraft. :D

I was more interested in the players personality. I think there is a relation to how you behave IRL, and what you do in game. I bet a lot of it is based on group mentality and peer pressure too.

Could be wrong, maybe the guys that murdered my noob characters were actually nuns and monks IRL.
