I think it was several years... I understand the forum has been around since '03, so six years at least, unless there have been other resets I'm unaware of. Most likely there have been.

But even if that lifespan is six years, that's no reason to expect that the current world will last that long. If anything, that Ragnarok party was so awesome that I'm sure not too few wouldn't mind having another one real soon. And since fewer players have giant compounds built up, there's less to loose with such a reset.

In fact, having a regular schedule of universal destruction and resurrection might be a nice idea. I understand that a similar system is used in A Tale in the Desert.
Surprise.

I disagree about having regularly scheduled map resets. It would be immensely repetitive to have to do everything all over again (And again... And again...), without new content.
The grumpiest tree you ever did see.

Character: Hamel, previously Chieftain of Ancient Bottleneck, a founding father of the Confederation of Bottleneck. Currently a hibernating soul.

I think a map reset after boats are introduced, and horse-drawn carts, would be pretty reasonable, seeing as the Wayneville incident pissed a few people off and that the new map would be better, because trade would be a lot easier and more fun.

I would love to sail all the way to a settlement with my boat full of goods that i'd offload at a shore town for money.

Also, some way to boost the economy and actually make coins effective would be good.

Resets should only come after there have been some really significant changes to the game, and resets should be thorough.

No map reset before they ditch the macaroni worldgen and finish travel - mounts, carriages, boats, bridges, crossroads. No map reset without char reset. No char reset without reworking FEP, food, LP, item quality, beliefs, reincarnation, combat.

Make sure you have the groundwork of a new system finished before making everyone start over to test it.

I agree, resets should be a rare thing. TBH, I completely lose the will to play when a reset is incoming, because I don't play my character, I play the world.

Well, they can't be sure something's finished without having people test it.
I don't have a problem starting over a few times. And most likely, that will need to happen because that's how software development works.

I expect that as the game develops, it will become easier to level up as it becomes more bloodline-based rather than character based. Then loosing everything with your current char won't be so bad because the bloodline would continue.

Besides, it's not about what you've built, it's about building it, right?

That's not to say I'm about to put a bunch of cheese away when I see a reset coming up next week, but if Jorb where to say "hard drive failure, everybody" or even "Adding eye color to characters, have to reset them all" I wouldn't leave forever.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I love starting fresh. But I hate building when I know it will be deleted in a matter of days. Hmm... maybe resets should come as surprise? ;)

Despite having spent a long time developing my character I agree with this. However, we should receive compensation. Stacked loftars lembas?

Yes. The game is still in heavy development stage. We are testers more than we are players. However, wouldn't it be better to have a test server for these frequent updates? Every 3-5 months trusted updates from the test server would be implemented into the main server. It would solve a lot of the common issues we've been having.

I don't think the player base is large enough to handle such a split.
