I don't know why people wouldn't want to eat rabbit. The meat is tender and juicy, it's mostly white like a chicken, and has a wonderful flavor that isn't gamy or strong. Also, they're really easy to keep in hutches and butcher yourself (if you don't want to bother with hunting wild rabbits).

deer have fully split hoof, and can be prepared under kosher traditions.

people don't eat rabbit because it's a "cute" animal, i guess. it's also not very available*. the only time i've even seen it was at an asian supermarket. the flavor wasn't anything really discernible from chicken, imo. there was really not much meat on it, i would rather just have a chicken. rabbits are definitely not kosher, though.

*in american urban areas. rural is probably quite different and i don't know about other countries. i'm sure they are pretty easy to raise, but if i'm going to be raising small animals, again i would prefer chicken, because eggs.

Yeah, I don't know why rabbit isn't more common. Probably because of that "cuteness" factor as you say.

IMO, best way to prepare pork:

Split that fat pig balls to sternum, rip out the guts and clean it, wash it good, and stuff it whole in a slow roaster or smoker for a day or so....

Have a lot of friends and family over and enjoy the feast.

I eat only halal pork.

I've never seen a pig eat its own filth, even feral ones. (Granted my experience isn't huge as I've never seen a starving pig.) Rabbits, on the other hand....

It's part of the rabbit's digestion process to eat its cecal pellets. Their digestive tract doesn't absorb enough nutrients the first time food is consumed, so they must eat their own waste again in order to get the nutrition they need.

The more you know.

I don't know what type of rabbit did you eat but there is more meat on a rabbit then a chicken. We also have home breed rabbits and meat is very delicious.

If you slaught a rabbit in the name of one god, it's kosher

edit: All herbivore animals are kosher when you slaught it in the name of one god, there is no way a carnivore can be kosher

(again) edit: i guess a pig is an omnivore so thats why pork isn't kosher

It's because it's hindgut is at the end of the digestive tract instead of at the stomach. Rabbits chew cud just like cows, sheep, etc., they just have to pass the food clear through their system first. (Or something like that... too many years since biology, so forgive me if I got the names of organs wrong.)

Until last year I lived in a mostly rural area in Kentucky. Most people kept rabbits for pets, but the more country type people would eat them if they found one in the woods. You don't see a ton of them in the woods, they hide fairly well from people. Mostly people go for deer, turkey and esp squirrel since you can get them almost any time of the year.

back on the topic of pigs. I can't wait to hunt boar here in Texas.

I'll eat anything unless it is endangered (panda, blue whale) or particularly intelligent (crows, parrots, any primate).

So far I have eaten (not counting all the different fish because that's a headache)
Chicken
Pork
Beef
Turkey
Lamb
Pigeon
Kangaroo
Ostrich
Boar
Pheasant
Duck
Goose
Quail (you know what, all the different birds are a headache too)
Venison
Snail
Rabbit (I think)

And that's it. Going to have to find horse, zebra and buffalo/bison soon. And try mutton, and squirrel.
