There are two upgrades that reduce the spawn time of gold cookies by half, cutting it down to 1m 15s to 3m 30s. This isn't quite enough though -- you need a third upgrade that doubles the duration of your gold cookies. This makes your x7 production cookies last for 2m 34s, which lets you net another golden cookie riding on the x7 bonus most of the time. Not every time, mind you, but a fair portion.

Or when the grandmatriarchs are mad, you can click an Elder Frenzy that grants you x666 for 12 seconds, which is ALOT :D
Keep in mind that the clot effect also lasts twice as long, meaning your production being halved for 132 seconds ;)

I've got a question. When you soft-reset, do you lose your golden cookie count?

As of the most recent update, no, according to the wiki.

You do not. It's retained and you get to keep working towards your achievements. =)
