It woudl be cool to see it implemented on a larger scale and with other hydrocarbons. Fuel reduction and creating more will at least avoid expansion of fuel search and any collapse. Making gasoline sustainable will solve a lot of problems. That and we need more forest.

Yeah It would be great if we could make it work. I guess the transition stage would be the most significant. The manpower from the oil companies drying up could fill the void of manpower needed to build and operate such facilities perhaps?

Right, but like if things got desperate, I could see it getting "magic wanded". Whether it be we get resources or funding from ohhh say bitch ass canada lul jk. No but really we would probably force it Somehow, just because people want those goods shipped all over the country. So we can have our tomatoes in winter and what not.

Canada has the tar sands. They are one of the worst offenders in this regard.

In 2050, i predict haven will be in open beta, however that's me being hopeful, considering the speed of current progression.
Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

getting oil out of tar sands is a very long and difficult process, not to mention it's impact on the environment.

Oh lets see if I am generalizing, Central African Republic, Sudan, Arab spring. Yeah to sum up, safest place in the world, that happens to be full of active conflict. All prejudice and no fact of course!
