This would be good, too, but I can see someone wanting to come in and screw up the big plans, too.

Oh I know that xcom doesn't mean to cause harm to the community, I don't place blame on the players involved at all and the people who put in all of the time for these mine supports KNOW that I don't blame them at all. It's our job during this phase to test the entire game, as Lortimo said - completely in agreement. Thing that got me fuming is that losses in rollbacks are recurring. My post above was simply my way of expressing my feelings about the situation and saying "I lost some stuff" doesn't make me feel as much closure on the situation as listing things where the devs can see it and other people can criticize me for being soooo anal over it. Like when somebody breaks into a car. The victim rarely says "Yeah, broke my window, took some stuff". They say, "Son of a bitch took my iPod, grabbed my stereo, cleaned the change out of my ashtray, then he peed on my floor mat". Makes them feel better I guess lol

^ This exactly to the "T" ^

If they announced that test beforehand then the supports probably would have been removed before they could pop them but the result would still exist in the same, unverified form. They would rebuild and not announce it the next time, OR somebody else would have the same idea at a different time and place. Either way would result in the same thing, so somebody HAD to do it eventually.

It is not a test anymore, since Hafen was announced. So now we are supposed to play this game, if we want to, not test something, which is promised to be thrown away.

Hello, new player here. Been playing for like, two or three days now. I kinda like this game. Two crashes happened so far and I've lost a somewhat frustrating amount of progress as well (I'll have to see the fallout of this recent crash before I react, but it's probably not as bad. Hopefully.). Just to clarify: I'm not too mad about this, since I understand that I am playing a game in active development. Anyway.

I've skimmed through the thread and haven't seen this posted yet, I apologize if this has been brought up before:

If some players here are notorious for testing out the weirdest/most nonsensical things, things that have a pretty obvious, even if slight, chance of crashing the server - why can't they just communicate their experiments with the developers and coordinate a world-save right before the event? I don't see a reason for the lack of communication besides malice, unless the devs knew about this and decided not to do a backup. Even if there is a time-zone related obstacle regarding communication, there's nothing stopping them from just, you know, waiting a bit before executing their evil master plans of world destruction.

Testing the game for the devs can just as well happen with the devs, right?

As stated before, disregard this if the devs are already being involved in said plans.
If you are one of these players in question, please replace "them/they" instances with "you", etc. ;)

On a semi-related note:
I'm having a lot of fun with the game, have been itching for an Ultima Online like experience for years now. Looking forward to having some more fun, hopefully with less setbacks? :)

Edit: Wow, 4 days even? Time flies.

Don't worry, rollbacks is a rare thing here, so not every server crash means you are going to lose something.

Thanks for clearing that up. Because of the rollback I was under the impression that world saves were pretty rare, like every 8 hours or so? Cheers! :)

it saves very often, but the problem is that things are saved at different times for some technical reasons.
