The same thing happened with Oblivion, when people found out Morrowind was destroyed after the end of the previous game, thus making all that savior prophecy pointless and removing all our sense of accomplishment. People raged that it shouldn't be canon, that is was bad game writing and completely illogical, and that "no true Elder Scrolls game does that", but in the end it became accepted by everyone. And when Skyrim was out people even forgot there was once an issue about that.

Same with Ultima VIII. It's crap and unlike the rest of the series, but it became canon. We can't blame devs for experimenting with different models. We should worry when they stop doing that.

I believe Fallout 4 will make this Fallout 3 vs. New Vegas lore thing irrelevant.

Well, take major "world building" companies like LucasArts on the one hand. They have explicitly hired people to fact check every comic book, novel, or story that has come out for fitting in the overall narrative of the fantasy universe*. TSR was pretty good about this with AD&D. (Can't really say what WotC has done with it as I haven't followed Forgotten Realms or Dragonlance much since late 90s.) The Roddenberry family has done their best about this, too, and even went with an "alternate universe" approach for the new Star Trek movies to keep the cannon in order.

*We won't discuss some of the editing changes that happened with the 20 year anniversary release of the SW movies.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

Didn't Disney basically say the Expanded Universe for Star Wars is no longer canon?

The new MO is finding a reason to end the universe, IIRC, the reason Grayhawk is no longer the main plane is because Vecna collapsed the universe (I remember reading something about Sigil collapsing, and the Planescape Universe basically folding in on itself), and now Eberron is "Prime Reality." which is terrible, because Fuck Eberron. Grayhawk4Lyfe.

Multi-Timeline at this point, kinda like the Marvel-verse. There's the Official, and then the expanded universe counts as Star Wars;Legends. So they didn't write it off, they just separated it into another timeline. Maybe we can hope to see Thrawn one of these days.

Back to the point though, I really like the little things Fallout does that make me believe they do care:D
While watching the trees in the trailer I noticed it's Autumn when the bombs start falling in Boston. And, as you know, the great war started in Autumn. Lore coherence ftw.

I always imagined Boston as some snowy wasteland around October. Whodathunk, but thanks for pointing that out. Good work on their part, sticking with continuity.

Thanks Borka. I get what you mean but my judgment is still suspended. I suppose they tailored their presentation to impress the audience and draw new players, because that's the kind of game that sells today - same with skyrim, saying "new features: we wrote new in-game books and also created a new language for you!" doesn't sell. I'll still wait until I've seen what they've done to the plot and lore. But... I'm seeing raiders with power armors and that's not a good sign.

Is that destructible terrain in 27:15?
