Hmm... without the cute 2D look it's simply not Maple Story for me. Looks like just another generic mmorpg.

Not that I played the original Maple Story for very long though. The grind was too dull and simply too much for me to handle.

The world is pretty much made of legos and builds/destroys itself around you, which is awesome. It's also still sickeningly cutesy. I'd recommend taking a peek at the trailer.

Alright, that trailer does make it look more appealing than the screenshot. The retardedly happy theme park image works for me. Maybe I'll give it a go after all.

Honestly I think the ONLY thing maplestory had going for it was the awesome art style and atmosphere. The grind was fucking obnoxious, and the actual gameplay gets old after the novelty wears off, at least I thought so.

See I'm not going to disagree with you on this in the slightest. The grind was fucking awful and the novelty of the gameplay wore off fast. Yet I'm still going to play it, so it does appeal to some horrible inner child shit that we all want to keep repressed.

Yeah, sounds about right. My problem with Mabi is that after nearly a decade the game has kinda worn thin. I've played it to death and most of the things that are left to do just aren't fun to do, such as grinding reforges until I get a perfect triple slot r1 reforge on all of my gear. Or Getting r1 Magic Craft/Blacksmith/H Engineering, maxing out the new holy knight skills, and things of that nature. I do love commerce though.
