To be sure, just because I think that words such as "faggot", "nigger", &c., can be used without any racist or homophobic intentions, does not mean that I think that speakers using them are not even aware of their racist or homophobic origins and undertones. Most intelligent people can make the distinction without problem, however.

"Etc." is an abbreviation of Latin "et cetera", and & is a digraph for "et", so it is literally the same as writing "etc.". It used to be a standard form.
