Sei wrote:Mqrius - what is the best way to send you maps for updates? File format, where to put them (e-mail, here, file sharing server), how to put names of villages etc. I have tried to find it in this thread but it is quite big already.
I can send some maps north from New Cockhaven and I think that there will be more.
File format: 1 file including all your 128########## directories, or just the entire map directory. This can be anything from simple zip or rar to gzip/tar/7z. Compression is useless (the pngs area already compressed) but not a problem.
(Note: I also support gothfox files, just upload all your 0040be5463c2cbabe8cf58cb4b74f972.png and fragdata 128##########.txt files)

Where to put them: If your email client can handle it (Gmail supports sending up to 10MB files), email is fine (Nuntius.Marii@Gmail.com). Other than that, anything that will host your file will do. I usually suggest http://www.mediafire.com, since I don't have to wait 60 seconds before I can download, and it has an okay download speed.

How to put names of villages: Most convenient way for me is to point them out on the map, like so: Constantinople: http://havenmap.student.utwente.nl/Preview/?x=1.62&y=1.44&zoom=9&map=1&quiet=false. Since yesterday you can just browse to the proper location, and copy the link displayed in small text in the top left corner.
Of course, when you have villages in uncharted territory, then this is impossible. I don't really have a good solution for that. Saying "the North of the maps I submitted" is a bit of trouble for me, because I don't actually see the compiled map before I insert it into the database, it's all done in one go. I'd have to look up which map parts are yours after inserting them.
If you have a better alternative for that, I'm all ears.

The uploading part will be improved some time soon. I am making a tool that you can run, that does all the uploading for you, directly to my server, where it will be processed automatically as well. Not done yet, but should prove quite handy. When I get this tool done, I will make a new thread where I will keep the first post up to date.

It's a heartvault, not sure you have a way of marking things as such or care about marking them as such :P

Not really. Things like marking dead villages and such have been suggested, but it's often unclear, or subject to change. Who says it's not a hearthvault doubling as a cheeserack? Anyway, my policy at the moment is just marking all villages that are and have been (I'm even marking old names for villages, try zooming in all the way on Odditown).

The only 'subjective info' is the height at which villages become visible. I do change that whimsically though, if I see a village mentioned a lot on the forum or IRC, I move it up a little, because apparently it's well known.

Is this server status normal? :P

The server is currently shutting down...

Currently saving all maps – 248/377 maps in world 0/2949 saved...

It is normal, and has been for quite some time. Don't worry, no problems there.
