agreed, and lets keep it at that, and no longer extend this thread for the purpose of extending the useless stalled arguments it carries.

Well, perhaps. But still, It keeps dragging on.... The main issue being it doesn't get us anywhere. maybe if we all start posting pictures of puppies and kittens everybody could just chill a little.

the ability to summon and kill offline players and the ability to build high and strong walls to keep griefers out do not strike me as "immersive models of player interaction" so much as very effective anti-griefer tools. Good to have, but only necessary because JTG was an ass.

niltrias wrote:And the point of the alpha, if I recall correctly, is to test systems exactly like the ones that the devs have been implementing re:security, so in the long term JTG is actually providing an important service to the system.

He didn't test them, he used exploits that people already knew to cause maximum grief to players and constantly fills up the forum with offensive trash.

He is absolutely, categorically NOT adding value to the game. The only thing of value he quite possibly added was his post on SA which brought a heap of new players to the game.

Don't glorify his douche baggery just because Jorb said he was helping point out problem areas.

Speaking of being an ass...

Yes, lets insult him now, you know, so we can have cheesemakers, hooray! :P Right, so when/if this game becomes more popular and 5 different players that play like JTG show up we'll have cheesemakers. Makes plenty of sense, I for one thank him for what he has made the devs do, sure he was playing the villian role, but at that time there was nothing to stop him, now you have walls and tracking and the ability to kill him.

So what would you rather have: A cheesemaker (how exciting :P ) or protection for the future of the game. It seems like griefers would ruin the game if they were not taken care of...but no lets make cheesemakers now and let the griefers come later to ruin it then.

Thats what I got from your post.

Sure enough, JTG has sniffed out several unbalances in the game. Which is certainly a good thing. What JTG did wrong*, was exploit the unbalances he found. His means do not justify his ends. JTG is a fool, and deserves no praise.

(*What made everyone hate him so much.)

Edit: Corrected typo, "means do not justify his ends" not vice versa.

The grumpiest tree you ever did see.

Character: Hamel, previously Chieftain of Ancient Bottleneck, a founding father of the Confederation of Bottleneck. Currently a hibernating soul.

I'd rather have a cheesemaker. There's nothing to stop the dev's from adding protection later on.

Then you didn't understand me.

We can deal with griefers now, or we can deal with griefers later. I'm always a fan of dealing with them later, especially if it means we can play and have fun now.

There is absolutely NO indication that dealing with griefers early is any easier/better than dealing with them later, and there's a lot of hate and drama flung around right now because they're here.

I disagree. I very much doubt JTG discovered anything that wasn't already known by the community and the devs.

I don't care if he uses exploits to help himself out, most if not all players do that. I care that he was using them to effectively fling poo in everyone's faces.
